In related news, I wish I were reading or watching Watchmen.  Or Dragonball (mostly on the reading part, definitely not with the watching).  Guess it's just one of those days when you're stuck with Plaaaaaaatoooooooooo.

EDIT: Dear authors:

There is something wrong with you when your writing is so convoluted that I would rather be reading in a foreign language.

Seriously!

Talking to a girl on a dating site. She is cute, available, has a job and at least some education, we have a lot in common. She also quotes Ayn Rand.

That shouldn't make you sad. It sounds like you have a real chance with her, go for it!

And, of course,

She also quotes Ayn Rand.

If I know Nadaka, I'm pretty sure that the problem here is that he disagrees strongly with objectivism, and that whether or not it's a valid philosophy is rather irrelevant so please let's not argue over it and just have some empathy for the dude.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

She could also just be culturally literate and joking around, you know.  I've been known to say "Where is John Galt?" with some frequency.  It's often difficult to register tone online and so on.  Might try to discuss Rand with her in order to find out how deep the rabbit hole she's swallowed is.

Current gripe:

The words "amanuensis," "ephebe," and "fauteil rollant" (French: wheelchair.  Yes, the language is actually relevant).  Oh lord, I'm only 200 pages into this monster, this leviathan.  Oh no.  Oh crud.  800 pages left to go.

Pretty much, someone using Rand as the basis of their political agenda is not someone that I could be with in the long run.

She also quotes Ayn Rand.

Just be careful. Some of the more fanatical ones are interesting. I lost a brother to this stuff. He made our brother walk 12 miles to a hospital with a broken foot after his garage door broke it. Then, he divorced two very nice wives because, "he was carrying them." Now, after getting a ton of free labor out of me in college, he's trying to hit me up for money. [meh]. Self reliance is a good idea, but going overboard isn't.

She could be perfectly ok, and I hope she is. I've had bad luck with this stuff.

I might be ok... She said the Tea Party were too extreme for her, so there is hope. LOL. I kinda miss being young and shortsighted when I didn't have to worry about politics when looking for a date.

I get adrenaline shakes when I get into arguments on the internet, still.

That's kind of pathetic.

Nah, it's a natural response when you get really heated, if you read something that makes you super angry.  You can't get angry at a book or whatever, but on the Internet you can respond, and then you sit there shaking waiting for a response to come back, because there's no fear like fear of the unknown.

I think it's more pathetic that I get adrenaline shakes when I watch fight scenes or arguments in movies, and I can see some guy losing who has no reason to.  I can't watch Clerks because I just want to reach into the screen and smack the stupid out of everybody.

Been feeling depressed and sick today. Lost a huge amount of motivation and am wondering if I'm slipping back into old habits of non-stop procrastination and lack of drive.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Hell, I can't watch The Office, because it reminds me that these people exist.

Also, Chrome doesn't recognise 'reminds' as a word. What.
