Starting a history degree soon. Came to the realisation that I will never be a scientist. That makes me really sad. I want to be any number of a lot of things, but I always wanted, from an incredibly young age, to be a scientist. I always thought of the basic ideals of science to be the highest ideals - I viewed science in the most positive way. And I'll never be a scientist.

I'm getting that urge again.  The urge to make a forum RPG that'll never pan out.  Maybe.  Maybe I'll do it.

Why a history degree and not a science one, then?

This is cheesy as hell to say, but plastered on the wall of my school was a quote that said:

"Whether You Think You Can or Can't, You're Right"--Henry Ford

and I always thought that was something that really held true.

In case you can't tell, I'm a sucker for inspiration quotes.

If you're set on not being a lab-type scientist, have you considered studying Anthropology? It fuses some of the ideas of history with science, studying civilizations both past and present, and uses that to understand what it is to be human, and have culture.

It's been used enough like that that I think we all know what he means. Words evolve!
Sorry, but using a word in a wrong way has nothing to do with evolution.

Actually lag just means a form of delay or not keeping up, it's not just internet lag at all. So if it's your computers fault, or your networks fault it's still lag. And you can call it lag, or say it's lagging, or that it's stuttering, or slowing down or whatever.

Everything must stay the same correct forever.

Indeed.

Actually lag just means a form of delay or not keeping up, it's not just internet lag at all. So if it's your computers fault, or your networks fault it's still lag. And you can call it lag, or say it's lagging, or that it's stuttering, or slowing down or whatever.

While the english wikipedia article does reinforce your statement to some degree, the german one does point at the incorrect usage of the word when associated with processing power (the polish one says it in a similar fashion).

If you redefine the word sentience to mean sapience, you lose a word that can describe the concept of sentience. Losing the ability to describe a concept can lead to loosing the ability to think about a concept. And losing that ability impoverishes yourself, and all of mankind if it becomes pervasive.

Other examples of words and concepts threatened by redefinition out of existence to varying degrees: liberal, socialist, fascist, middle class, freedom, justice, truth, rights.

I think that's just bad spelling.

I'm going to get very, very drunk.

No public defender/appointment only. Judge forcibly appoints incredibly heinous criminal defendant--who doesn't even want counsel now--knowing firm has no experience in this area, at all. She could've easily picked another firm that does this sort of thing. She won't let anyone out of it, because no one wants this case but he must have representation. He attacked and injured his last lawyer just for suggesting a plea deal. He scares the shit out of me everyone.  Mountain of terribly convincing evidence, no alibi or defense beyond, "wasn't me." (Original). Guess who firm puts on this.... I bet the last guy's hospital bill was more than this pays too, not that I'd willingly take it for any amount of money.... This is not a typical case and should be handled by a larger, more specialized firm and the judge knows this, is able to fix it, but doesn't care.

Naturally, the "defense side is scum" attitude is pervasive, even though I don't do this kind of work, didn't ask for it, specifically tried to get out of doing it, and wasn't allowed to leave. O, and if you do refuse this kind of thing against the court's orders that's contempt of court, which actually might mean jail. Go right ahead and force this job on someone and then look down at them....

Yeah, I think I'm preparing my resume'.... I never wanted to do this particular sort of thing, and no, it really isn't par for the course. This jig and its effects on my life, aren't getting better. Ah back breaking straw, this camel has been expecting you....
