You do not convince me. You rationalize your actions and because the result is favorable you become right.

I can't fall asleep at all. Everytime I'm almost asleep I go to turn or otherwise move and hurt myself. This is ridiculous :(. I guess that's just one of the downsides of pushing your body as hard as you can.

Oh, Sad Thread, how I hath not missed posting in ye.

So. With the coming of major slashing-and-burning of the (British) Army Regulars, I didn't exactly have high hopes for a military career any more, and yeah, it's confirmed for it being a no-go, at least for now (as in a few years).

I was told by my recruitment officer that I could make a decent go of the Territorials but, really, screw that. I don't want to be a part-time play-soldier. While they are supposed to be taking a more "active" role in Britain's military operations, that's almost the equivalent of using half-trained militia instead of professional soldiery.

Actually, no. That's exactly what it is.

And before people start saying shit like "Well good, now you don't have to ever kill anyone," know that doing so will make you wrong, just by saying it.

Also, I was going for the Military Police, who do noticeably more crime-solving and law-keeping than fighting.

That is a shame. I've never been motivated to join the military, but if that is your dream, it's a damn shame that you can't do it.

I guess that what I was about to post will seem crass, but please know that I didn't read what you'd written by the time I'd decided to post it.

What do you mean? I'm a pacifist, but if a war is the only way to bring peace, and it is a just war, then I would participate.

Bahahah. Nah, I'm a lover more than I'm fighter, and I'm only mediocre at love. But... the job of the MP is to keep people in line with words and investigations instead of guns. They just get trained to use them because they happen to be doing that in places where fighting is heavy/terrorism is rife/everyone around is in the military and gives no care about what the regular police have to say. Fun fact, if a solider commits a crime, handling of that crime is handed to the military.

This is a silly thing to say and you should feel silly.

I was rather fed up during my mandatory peacetime service... while there are values I'd be ready to defend, I'd probably go crazy if I ever had to fight in a real conflict...

What I'm saying is that just because you are a pacifist, doesn't mean you're hating on all the people who want to defend their country.

Since I seem to have derailed this slightly into a military theme, I'll share something a friend of mine told me. Currently, and for the next two years, he is in the Israeli military because of their national draft, and he hates it. His duty a week ago was to guard a bus stop that's on the route used by the buses that take soldiers to their local base, to stop them from hitchhiking.

Because of the number of times that a soldier that has done that has been abducted by terrorists and ransomed off for any of their members that have been taken prisoner that they want back. What the hell.

In non-military sads, I got linked this today and it made me miss my old D&D group.
