It's stupid social media.  I'd never use that word in context of an actual relationship with a human being.

Defenestrate is totally legal within those bounds, though. :P

Every time I see someone use the word retard on the internet, I become more and more aware of the surprisingly few amount of smart people that I could ever hope to date.

It works a lot better if you use the ass burgers definition of these terms.

Ass burgers is becoming a popular term for people who self diagnose themselves with aspergers to avoid their crippling social problems Being their fault, instead blaming it on some condition that others have to adjust with. Works well with other insults like retard. Makes conversations work a bit better.

And don't worry buddy, love comes at every I.Q. Level~

I wonder how the people who were actually diagnosed feel about all that.

Do you mean the people who self diagnose or the new term that is a play on what their condition is called? If what I do becomes an insult to them then it contradicts then intent of separating the insult from people who actually have it and I'll stop. If it's to the people who self diagnose then yeah, it happens to most conditions where ones social life is affected.

Everything's your fault unless a psychiatrist says it isn't?

Just saying, that term was originally used to make fun of autistic people--or so it's been used in my experience.

I don't really know, though.

Not necessarily, but people who self-diagnose and use that as an excuse for their actions are, frankly, annoying in the extreme.

Probably yeah, it's a simple stretch. It would be great to live in a world where insults like that were made with no ill connotations towards people with such conditions. Although ideally we don't need more insults in our language.

Well, it's at the point where I at least don't feel comfortable claiming it or discussing it on the internet in most locales, because the general assumption (I believe) is that one is fake-claiming.

So yup.

Fake claiming or not, crippling social anxiety isn't something I think should be joked about. No matter the cause.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

So yup.
The general assumption is, that if you don't have a psychologist's diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome, you are self-diagnosing. This isn't the same thing as faking, because if you're faking then you would know it, and that's just plain malicious. More likely, the people whom are declaring themselves to have Aspergers are doing so as a psychological excuse. It's not a conscious action. Individuals whom are socially inept hear about the pop psychology version of Aspergers and think "Wow, that sounds kind of like me, I must not be at fault for my social ineptitude!". Of course, none of these people are actually psychologists, and even if they were bias would still cause any self-diagnosis to be illegitimate.

I know this for a fact because, while I never actually self-diagnosed myself with Aspergers, a couple of years ago I did have suspicions about it when I first heard of Aspergers. Of course, upon actually studying the disorder instead of just going with it's popular psychology variant, it was quite clear that I did not have Aspergers and was just falling into the common assumption that exists among socially inept but otherwise psychologically typical individuals.

Of course, some people on the internet are, as always, jerks and will not believe that a person does have a psychologist's diagnosis no matter what they say on the matter. That more depends on the community, though.

It's not anxiety, though that's often comorbid.  It's an inability to read body language and social cues.

I was diagnosed with it a couple times two years ago, and although I've gotten a hell of a lot better since then, I can still tell that I have a great deal more trouble with some tasks than I should.

From the DSM definition I have in front of me, an inability to read body language and social cues would definitely be a symptom that would contribute to a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome, but it doesn't seem to be necessary for it to be present.

Spoiler: The relevant part (click to show/hide)
So while A would be what you describe, you could have two of the other ones instead and still have Asperger's Syndrome.
