He was provocated, but christ, to have been muted 3 to 8 times, recieved warnings and then on first day back start like that? What are people expecting?

Ah, eventually. But at first? As far as I know he wasn't. He just jumped on people for a typing quirk and then the shitstorm started.

Really though, is a huge discussion needed every time someone gets banned? It's getting weird. Like if no one thinks toady should have that right at all.

 People having beef over the bannings here always confused me. I understand if they were personal friends and not wanting them gone, but if you were friends with these people you know exactly what they do that would get them banned. And what motive would Toady have other than users acting either like pricks or doing things he doesnt want on his forums? Why shouldnt he be able to decide this?

 Any doubt over Toady being unfair went out the window when people had more than five chances each.

 @Lys: It happened already, it quickly fell apart with debate and a possible banning or two. Not gonna work out.

I just find it shocking how replaceable the members of this community have become. Nobody seems to care anymore.

If you have no other method of contacting them than the forums then you clearly aren't that great friends with them.

They do something to get banned, it's not like it happens at random. Not to mention in this case he was given SEVERAL chances.

I just don't really understand in cases like this, it almost looks like people are just trying to be contrary. And remember I never said it was a good thing, so I don't see why I got that leveled at me. In the end Toady having to step in is a very bad thing.

 Thats a bit of a harsh way to put it, but its a relevant reason for why the people who we want to continue contact with wont be cut off terribly much. And a majority of the bans were for repeat issues. They were told that if they wanted to stay here and converse with us they would need to quit that behavior. If Janet posted some H-game images in provocative positions I would be sad she was banned and lose a reason for being here, but I would understand why Toady would swing the banhammer. She knows what he wont allow here and understands why he doesnt want it here. Likability does not trump personal responsibility.

Funny you say the H-game thing duke, since I was actually considering modding one game of mine that could be considered one up but using it entirely cleanly (To be fair, I find the game more a poser than a pervy game, so does the games community) to continue my old fourm adventure with something other than create.swf.

I know it's not random, but there have been cases, where it was unjust. I still can't get the bitter aftertaste from that event out of my mouth.

I know this is utopia, but I dream of a community managed tribunal for ban appeals.

 Those poser engines seem like they could work out, just be sure to show off what you plan to do with it to Toady so there are no misunderstandings. If you start a forum adventure I may start getting interested in those again.

 Misunderstandings seem to form the majority of ban issues here.

Not to kill the mood (I'm already late to the party) however Breadbocks was totally being harassed and antagonized by a lot of forum members.  It was his fault for acting too hostile back but some people should feel guilty for egging him on, hmmm.

Yeah.  It's not that he didn't deserve to get banned (and he had plenty of warnings of course), but there was some deliberate prodding of him in order to get reactions.
