I know. I wasn't even thinking of that, but I miss leader, will-beat-the-crap-out-of-you, scared of small spaces, used-to-be-a-goddess Storm. She was so cool. And that's even without the mohawking and stuff.
Agreed. Except, the only reason I accept the mohawklessness is because, as awesome it looks in comics, would have looked ridiculously outdated on screen.
I don't remember Callisto. This is possibly because I hated the third movie so much that I have repressed it entirely, other than vague memories of the dude who played Miles in Lost being Random Spiky Mutant B.
She was the speedster who also could sense other mutant (Sage, I guess, got fused with her a little). Basically, another mutant introduced just because of Plot. And she has nothing to do with the original Callisto, I guess they just used the name because she was supposed to be Storm's main adversary/counterpart of the evil guys.
If you don't remember the comic's Callisto, she was another badass normal and leader of the Morlocs, and pretty much in a hate-love relationship with Storm, sometimes her mentor (for non-super Storm), sometimes a rival, and sometimes an enemy, and sometimes a friend. IIRC. She's also extra awesome in hindsight (I didn't think of it when I was a kid) because she is the only female character that I know of that is ugly, and not a bad guy. And I don't just mean "normal-looking" to the usual beyond supermodel women, not "ugly" in a cute or beautiful way like that Marrow girl, but actually ugly, and it wasn't even a big point in her character - that is, it wasn't constantly fretted on or angsted about, even though it was a big part of her backstory (her name is Callisto for a reason ).
Anyway, I could rant all day about Callisto, she's another one of the top characters. Really brings out the supressed comic book nerd in me.
The one that pissed me off was that they basically threw Sabertooth in because he's a staple of the series, but they didn't do anything with him at all. Kind of like what happened with Gambit.
Agreed, again. I think that's partly what went on with Callisto. They needed some character to antagonise Storm (I guess because they didn't leave her out again, which failed miserably - just like the whole "Storm takes the lead" storyline is just rubbishly implemented and overshadowed by WOLVERINE, like everything else I guess) so they just took somebody who already was "related" with the character (and then bastartized her to fit the PLOT, but that's beside the issue) without thinking much more about it.
Of course, Sabretooth sucked in the Wolverine movie (I mean, the fourth Wolverine movie ) too. It's hard to make him movie-able without being ridiculous, I guess.
Just rewatched the second one, though, and oh my goodness--so good. I could watch Wolverine stabbing things all day. That, and Nightcrawler bamfing all over the place. Pretty much the only moment when I got annoyed was in hearing that Colossus had lost his accent.
Colossus being stripped into your average American jock was a really bad move, definitely. His whole personality just fell apart, and it's not like the movie(/s) tried to build anything up themselves. Better yet to keep Russian jock Colussus so I could project the comic character over to the movie one.
*Vagina Dentatal Snip*
I understand where you're coming from. I see the whole "vagina dentata" concept as the "threatening sexuality" thing taken to the next level, ie instead of just being threatened or risking your (manly) pride, it's blown up so much there is actual danger to it. Like Rouge's whole "touch me and
DIE" thing, or you know, the titular example, a vagina biting your dick off. That is, when it's not just a metaphor in-story, but "real". This is where my definition starts tp blur and fall apart because it's still a metaphor for us and the danger is still just fake and well, yeah, I guess I have to separate it into two different concept, one applied on the story/characters/setting in itself and one meta-applied on us. I need to spend some time refin-defining the whole thing, I guess.
Anyway, to return to the original matter, I guess Mystique lands somewhere on the border, both being "dentatal" and just being a sexually-threatening woman.
Also I'm sorry for the bad pun. If it even counts as a pun. The opportunity was to rare to just let it slide.
Bleh.. the fact that I'm nothing but a parasite, ruining the lives of the people I love.
To pseudo-qoute Bowie, those thoughts are knives in your mind, MoM. And they're wrong.
Don't listen to them.
