I keep an old backup pair of glasses just for this reason.

For some of us, the glasses we wear all the time is our backup pair. And Hindsight isn't a terribly nice thing to utilize in this thread.

I'm on my third and last backup pair myself. It doesn't matter much, as the prescription dates back to 2005.

I actually have it fairly good as glasses are concerned. I have two pairs of frames and 4 lenses. Though all the lenses are for the right side since getting a lens for the left side would be fairly pointless in my case. Though I DO only have one solid black lens for the left side so if that breaks Ill look rather lopsided.

My backup pair are languishing somewhere under the ~6 inches of stuff on my floor. I'm fairly sure they're in a case, so they're probably ok, but I've not seen them in a few months.

My eyes didn't change, but I got free glasses due to being at school, so I got a new pair. Good thing, too; the backups are now so bent and wonky I have to bend them into shape so they stay on.

My computer decided to turn itself off when I launched my epic assault on the enemy mothership. I suppose given the way I was taking damage from the mothership guns it wasn't going to go well anyway, and I'd already lost one DD. But still, I am somewhat saddened.

I have two current pairs -only slightly different prescription. One autocorrects to sunglasses in UV light outside and back to clear inside. :)

I am 'legally blind' requiring corrective lens to drive though, and the Army/USAF/marines would never take me as a driver or infantry.

I've had this pair for three years now, mainly because new glasses are way to expensive

Have you tried buying them online?  Its way cheaper, and the lens quality is just as good.

The only downside is that sometimes they aren't fitted very well, and you might have to find someone to do this.

Glasses are expensive in general.

Actually, way back when in uni I was offered officer training by a recruiter (back when they were really desperate to recruit because iraq was incredibly shitty and they weren't getting anyone) I was told- and I quote, "you should be a tech, you're too smart to be a grunt".

If I ever did military I'd go Chair Force and land me a cushy desk job like one of my old roomies.
