I'm also sick of how that seems to be the stock response to anything of the sort "But in Dwarf Fortress, you do this so it's fine!! :D"

I'm totally with you on that one.  Rape apologia, sexism, etc., etc.... ergh.

I mostly like it here, but this particular habit is one of the forum's least endearing.

That's why a lot of us stay down here. Less of that, less "MAGMA", more intelligent conversation. Usually.

Nothing wrong with a bit of magma. But the requests for despicable acts tend to go out of hand fast.

It's only DFGD though. Modding forum and succession games forum are alright and there's still less crap on the top forums.

I'm sad because, even though these people were convicted of their crime, they'll probably end up with probation instead of the long-term jail time they deserve.

I'm now sad about the MAGMA phase I went through, and the fact that every so often I'm tempted to make similar shitposts. I don't think I hit a point where I was using DF-is-worse logic for justifying real-world asshattery, but I could be wrong. And I feel guilt by association, especially because I definitely did go through the "DF is the greatest game ever let us worship the Toad" thing that seems tangentially related, and please, please nobody take that as a jab at Toady or some other reason to get defensive and derail this thread into a lock or something. It's not meant to be a conversation-starter, just a regretful remark.

PSEUDOEDIT: Oh, and then MSH's post. Bleeehhhhhh

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

First of all, stop calling me man.

Secondly, how is treating a woman as a sex slave anything like butchering an animal for meat?
And if a wife/girlfriend is being sexually abused then they should stop being dumb, man.

Words cannot describe the mix of rage and sadness I feel right now

It's only a matter of time until Toady sees the reports on this troll.

It's an obvious troll. Ignoring the display of willful stupidity is best.

UGH. The "Toady holiday" thread is making me cringe.
