The issue was that she knew I liked her. I wanted to keep her as a friend despite this, and I wanted to show her that I didn't hold it against her. Basically, what I did was, in additon to the astrology and fortune telling crap she likes, whe I came across a book that seemed to be of use or interest to her, such as a recent legal guide to the rights of same-sex couples, I'd hand it back to her. (We work in a used book warehouse, and are allowed to buy books dirt cheap, so when we find something that we know someone else is interested in, we pass them around. Managemnt expets this, as it's about the only perk the job has.) Problem is I've been finding a little too much of that lately, and now she seems to think that i'm just obsessed with her being gay. (To be fair, she's gotten a lot of that from the other folks at work, which I was unaware of until now.)

My apologies then, but that does make it seem like you were making a big deal of it, sort of a reverse "thou dost protest too much thing" where you try and make it obvious that you're ok with it to mask the fact that you aren't (Not that I'm saying that)

Yeah, I can see how that might go badly. Nobody likes to be pigeonholed. It's like when people find out you have a hobby, and then for the remainder of your natural life, all your birthday gifts will be related to that hobby. It implies that others' perception of you is reduced to a cardboard cut-out.
