Writing the letters is not a conscious act. It's reflex. That's why it's taught at 5-8 when language skills are still developing fast. It's an instantaneous association between the sound and the written part. With phonetical languages it's easier to pick up afterwords. Germanic ones, a bit trickier.

My suggestion: hammer it in by repetition. Get the grasp of the letters' shape first, then start writing words. Copy newspaper articles or paragraphs from books.

Like I said, repetition.

Start slow at first; try to draw the letter, not write it. Take as many strokes as needed to get comfortable. Then try to reduce the number of strokes.

Hey I still write lower case 'f's with tails. They end up looking like r.

If you can do i, you can do so many other letters.
I is constructed of what's called a minim, or a short downstroke.
Also constructed of these short downstrokes are the letters n and m, and, to a lesser extent, u and w.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Every letter can be broken down into these single strokes.
Also, as childish as they seem, get a kindergarten workbook with extra big double lines, sans serif font, and easy to follow guides on your strokes, and it will be immensely helpful.

I can attest to the repetition thing.  Part of detention at my school was having to transcribe (often repeatedly) a long bullshit letter about behavior and whatnot.  After rewriting it over and over, my absolutely atrocious handwriting got smaller, neater, and a lot faster.  It's deteriorated a bit since then, but mostly because I've spent the last five years transcribing lectures at the speed of thought.  It's still much more legible though.

My hand writing stopped getting better at about year 8 where it just stuck like an annoying, lazy bugger who refused to lift a finger to improve.

I remember I got so sick of it that I wrote out a whole book twice (one from the Black Magician tiliogy if you're wondering) and after that, STILL NOTHING!

I guessed I'm doomed to have handwriting that looks like a spider grabbed a pen.

I'm sad because the RP thread hasn't been updated.

And continuing the handwriting discussion, Why don't you get yumi to help you?

I'm eating a Swiss Miss pudding cup, and I can't decide if it's actually good or if it spoiled somehow.  It tastes alright, but it's kinda clumpy.

The sad part is, I'm too much of a sugar-hungry slob to cut my potential losses and stop eating it.

Update: My pride at showing some truly Herculean willpower overcame my burning need to never leave a snackfood uneaten.  Of course, I already ate most it, so the damage is done and the entire scenario was a waste by any measure.

Summary of current status:

Star eating Shape-shifters coming to kill us all but will be stopped by plot with undertones of dwarven gambling, brawling, and the evacuation ship launching prematurely.

can't make something up if you have no clue what's going on.
