Setting the Scene/Assignment Brief

InnoTech Centre based at SWC, is a leading business and mentoring support centre providing vital expertise, advice and support for small businesses in the local area.
Their aim is to nurture and grow innovation and technology through four key concepts:
•   Creating partnerships with other colleges, businesses and organisations
•   Helping local business embrace innovation through high grade knowledge exchange and technology development
•   Providing training and technical mentoring to businesses
•   Promoting a culture of innovation and adventure in schools in a dynamic and exciting way to promote the STEM subjects.

They have a client, Michelle, who is looking a program written for her business, “Print Express”.

Michelle, has asked you to design a new application, which she can install on her PCs in her shop, that allows the staff to design and get a price for a personalised T-shirt for a customer.

The program must contain security.

The program will then produce a rough image showing the final product and generate its cost based on size and quantity, personalised text and logo.  The following should be included in your design:




The following sizes and costs before VAT are:

•   Snug – £10.99
•   Small – £12.99
•   Medium – £14.99
•   Large – £16.99
•   x-large – £18.99
•   xx-large = £20.99

The t-shirt must come in at least five colours and as the customer picks the colour, the t-shirt on the screen must change to match.

The t-shirt can be personalised with some text at an additional cost of £0.50 per letter. As the customer enters the text to be displayed, this will appear on the t-shirt image.

The program must also allow the customer to select from 4 logos that can be printed on the t-shirt and allow them to choose where the logo is to be displayed, e.g. left arm, back etc.  The printed logo has a cost of £12.00.

The customer can ask to have the item delivered at no additional cost. If delivery is required, a section must be available for the delivery details

Display the price in £ sterling and remember to add on the VAT.

The quotation must be printed or saved to a text file to be emailed to the customer.
 
Assignment 3
Tasks
You will be required to complete the following tasks:

Task 1
1.1    Use appropriate tools to design an event driven application for your Tee-shirt program [SDD P6, EDP P3]

The tools to use are:
•   Story boards
•   Structure Diagrams
•   Dataflow diagrams
•   Pseudo-code (for task 1.2, D2)

1.2    Develop algorithms to represent a design solution [SDD D2]. You should already have covered this in 1.1, Pseudo-code.

Task 2
2.1   Implement a working Tee-shirt program to meet the defined requirements [EDP P4]
2.2   While implementing your program, demonstrate the use of event driven tools and techniques [EDP P2]

Task 3
3.1   Test the Tee-shirt program you have created [EDP P5].
3.2   Analyse actual test results against expected results to identify discrepancies
[EDP M3]. For this I expect you to identify discrepancies and investigate why they happened.
3.3   Evaluate an event driven application [EDP D2]

Task 4
4    Create on-screen help to assist the users the Tee-shirt program [EDP P6].

Task 5
5    Create technical documentation for the support and maintenance of the Tee-shirt program [EDP M4].

Task 6
6.1    Justify the choice of data types and software structures used in your design solution

6.2    Give reasons for the tools and techniques used in the production of the Tee-shirt program  [EDP M2].
