I....

I managed to read a whole page of timecube without a) my eyes rebelling b) my brain revoking my access to the body's command functions c) my soul organizing a Coup de tat.

I... don't know if that is a good/bad sign

Your brain said "fuck it, let him read it so he'll know not to try again."

I feel like playing an FPS lately. Normally I'd just load up TF2 but I honestly don't like that game much and I'm getting more and more tempted to uninstall it.

Quake III? Sauerbraten?

On that note, I decided to try out Open Arena.
Now I just need a friend who has their own computer and we can play together.

I'm dropping the course with My Favorite Professor Ever.  I'm not even auditing it.  It's too late in the evening, I can't make it to office hours, it gives me 8-hour days 3x per week when I could be spending my time far more productively, and I'm pretty goddamned sure that in the long run I'll do a lot better in, well, life, if I have enough spare time to learn ahead with pleasure, rather than floundering in a course that's drawn a number of graduate students.  I don't need that much competition at this stage of my education, and I absolutely love all of my other professors this year.  Plus, he's using a textbook a tier above the book that was considered too difficult for this course for the past 10 years or so... it's just a recipe for disaster.

This makes me sad, but I know I simply couldn't take it.  This may also spell the end of my mathematical career as a serious student, but I also know that if I tried to continue, that might damage me just as easily.

So, here we are.

Dearest, I quit.

Yeah, there's always next year.  Frankly, once I've done this I'll probably have about 5 hours a week of studying/homework.  Total.  So it'll be a good time to prepare for everything I need to do next year, and I'll be able to pursue the more well-rounded approach I prefer.

In any case, it's not really a bad change, and I don't feel all that terrible.  I wish I could take his course now without freaking out, but... I can't, so I won't.

Don't second guess yourself.  You know your own workload, and juggling classes so that you're not buried is the key to learning 2 college.  You work and learn at your own pace.  The professor will be there another semester... just be sure you sign up as early as possible so you don't get shut out.

Yeah, there's no problem with that.  Plus, his courses usually have low, low demand, so there's no danger of being shut out.

I just don't want to deal with him and his goddamned 30+-hour-per-week problem sets this year, especially when I'm supposed to be starting on a language I've never even poked with a stick before (Russian).  My pace!  I take my pace and stab people with it!

Ho ho ho.

I suspect that I need to sleep, or something.

wait, so you're learning russian now?

this is it.

it's on.

you have provided that push needed for me to keep learning that language that working with a bunch of russian co-workers didn't provide.

we'll see who reaches proficiency first.
