I'm wondering, if psychotherapy would improve my quality of life in any way...
Anyone got experiences to share?
Depending on your problems, it could. What kind of therapy you should/could get depend on said issues, though, and it's almost impossible for anyone to give advice without knowing specifics. Nevermind that layman's advice should be taken with a grain of salt anyway.

Anyway, I have some basic advice; If you have some "minor" issue, hang-up or fear (whether it be phobia, shyness, social discomfort or whatever) CBT might be a good route to take. That is, if the problems does not have an apparent "source" other than themself/are self confirming, and you're having trouble breaking habits, CBT might give you advice, exercises and "mental tools" to help yourself. It mostly just deals with "symptoms", however. Which is enough when the crux is mainly the symptoms themselves, like most phobias and the like, where just removing the symptoms will basically remove the whole issue (Many phobias are text book examples of self reinforcing and/or circular thought patterns, i.e. "Dogs are scary because they scare me because I'm scared of them because they're scary" ), but CBT is definitely not a good way to deal with deeper emotional trauma.

For heavier stuff, I don't really know what to suggest. I have trouble dealing with my own problems. For example, my CBT sessions helped me with some of my "symptoms", but since the source issue was still there I kinda fell back into the old ways a while after finishing them. Medications of different sorts can also be a good supplement, but you have to remember that they mainly serve to make it easier to deal with issues. Most anti depressants, for example, are not actually meant to make you feel less depressed but to give you more energy and willpower needed to be able to tackle your problems.

To end this little rant of mine, I just want to repeat that I am not a much more credible source for this than your average guy, just someone who has gone through different therapies myself. And that it is really hard for anyone to give advice without knowing more about you and what you want to deal with.

However, if you really are interested in changing stuff about yourself, whatever it may be and for whatever reason, I suggest that you first of all see some kind of counselor (I'm unsure what the right term is) if you have access to one through your school (if you go to one), or perhaps if you can find more information about clinics (I'm not sure this is the right term in English either ;)) in your area on your own, and go from there.

Tried playing a crappy game with a fucked up screen resolution.  It reset my desktop resolution by its own volition, and after setting it back, my 172 painstakingly arranged icons are all out of position.  Again.  After all the work I put into arranging them after the last time this happened.

I'll have to spend like an afternoon sorting this shit out, and packing stuff away where I originally intended it to be packed away.  This is the worst part about being neurotic, I swear.  Well okay, it's definitely in the top five.
Stardock Fences. best desktop icon organizer ever, and seems to be pretty resolution-altered resistant.

-snip-

My major problem right now is apathy, which results from a combination of issues I had or am having.

Had a severe brunout, while still being in school, which never entirely subsided.
Never had much support from my parents, only constant reproaches.
Very limited social contact, since I graduated, since I have no driving license (my parents wouldn't let me have one until recently and now complain about what's taking me so long). Probably will get better once I enroll at a university.

These are the main points. There would be more to list up, but I feel like those are having the most impact.

I'm not being to fond of medication. Tried it several times for shorter timespans, but always stopped taking them, because either I started feeling well enough, or my depression turned into apathy, which only worsened the situation.

Anyone got experiences to share?

I went briefly.  If you're not willing to pay out money to get someone to see you more than once every month, or you're so scared of talking to people that you'd consider lying to the person in question (and are a good liar >_>), then I don't think it's really worth it in terms of... fixing stuff.

It all depends on what your problem is.  For me, what I really needed to do was spend some time thinking about what was necessary and learn to tell people what I was feeling (because I used to pretty much not talk.  Ever).  I learned to do the latter by spending time on B12, though, and the former... well, oddly enough, most of my problems seem to have fixed themselves because I learned how to cook.

If it's apathy, I'd strongly recommend going out and trying a bunch of new things.  Learn a new language, study some history, do whatever feels unnatural.  Cook, sew, do cartwheels... and yeah, I know those are all "girly" things, but if girls can go take up facepunching and porn with little flak, it seems only fair to let you do some girl-things, too.  Plus, if you can think of some sort of overarching goal (like my goal to no longer live in the US), you'll be helped out a lot.  It helps even if you can figure out a list of things you don't want to do.

(Obviously, you aren't completely apathetic, because you know there's a problem with your apathy.  You've got a good foothold already, doodabuddy)

I'd say... try to find out what's up with your parents.  Talk to them, find out what the situation is.  Of course, that's a very American sort of thing to do, so I don't know how well that will work.  But open communication is generally helpful.

And then, more social contact should help the burnout.  I'd almost suggest a penpal.  Hell, I'd love to write someone outside of the US once every month.  Love.  I was just thinking about coercing some people here to write to me.

For other things, I personally keep a fairly extensive journal, just to write about how things have been going lately, where I am, where I'd like to go.  That's really helped, too, because it can actually help with the lack of social contact.  For reference, I'm currently living in a house with some roommates who are pretty much never home, and basically don't talk to anyone but my mom every once in a while.  So, I imagine we're in similar straits, but that journal has been really helping me keep from getting lonely.

Seriously, dude... not outside of the MSPA thread.

What has made me sad today is my terror of Cyrillic.  It looks like a very angry script.  I am also suddenly scared of Russian... but on the other hand, I suppose I should just take things one little step at a time, and see how far I can get.

Okay, go go go~

It was a harmless one page 1337 joke that will be gone before you even know it.

Like right now, woah.
