In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I've realized I have no idea how to build a computer. This is unfortunate, as I had planned to do so.
You've played Minecraft or some other crafting-based game, right?

Well, everyone knows that computers are silicon-based, and you can get silicon from sand.  So, you should start out by gathering sand.  Making a forge is kind of its own little thing--but since you need one for everything else, I'll assume you already have one.  Anyway, sand by itself will give you silicon wafers, and forging them with different kinds of metal will give you different components.  Try it!  You'll need a motherboard, CPU, and up to four sticks of RAM.  Drag all the components onto the motherboard, and you'll have a working computer in no time.

Its mostly just putting stuff in slots, and messing with plugging in small wires of various connector sizes. And antistatic mats/wristbands so you don't fry your stuff.

It's better to touch a metal part of your desk, or something more-grounded than your case; if your machine is standing upright, unplugged, on rubber feet, then touching the chassis won't do much of anything.

Real men hit the machine to get it working.

My newest forum game has gone from bad to worse.
I suppose it fits with the theme of the game, though.

I went outside to see the lunar eclipse, only to find that this is Canada, the land without a moon.

Fuck.

Can't sleep. Internet connection is supremely shitty. A two and a half minute Youtube video takes three and a half hours to load. A can of Sprite sits in my hand, its contents frozen. My netbook can't run Spelunky - the framerate is bad and the screen is too small for the window. I'm writing a C++ program to help me in future physics classes; it's only barely started, and I cannot muster the will to continue.

Hell has frozen over, and its name is Maine.

The penumbra hasn't started, and won't for 53 miniutes at the time of writing. Wikipedia jumped the gun.
