I am tired of dealing with my mother.  I am also going to be extremely pissed if she calls me every day when I am in Berkeley.

In all probability, she is going to do that.

I am tired of being told "you are going to socialize with me, you are going to do it now, and fuck whatever you had going on and how you feel, your job is to fulfill my needs."

Her excuse will be that I don't take perfect care of myself and sometimes I have irregular sleeping hours, as well as forgetting to take my vitamins from time to time.  The real reason will be because she has no friends and is too much of a coward to make any.

Well, if you do decide to tell her off, make sure you don't ever have to resort to staying with her again. I don't know your mother, but I know that some people can hold a grudge quite literally forever, and that you don't want to risk being out on the streets because of that.

Keep your phone in Silent mode full time. If she complains, say that you are getting calls from telemarketers, but that you always call her as soon as you see the call.

Nah.  Mostly venting because I've been living here for a long time, and I'm sort of tired of my energy being eaten up by this person.  Bleh... well, not so much longer before I move back "home" and get to talk about stuff I'm actually interested in, rather than how "other races are taking over our country."  On the other hand, I won't have internet, but then she won't be able to contact me via IM, either.  Thank God.

And then I'd get chewed out for not checking more often, as I do when my phone runs out of battery.  Heck, I seem to remember getting in trouble once because I didn't answer a call in the middle of class.  Thanks for the idea, though.  This is a woman who does not believe in dissuasive social cues.

You guys do know that's what parents are for, right?  I'll never forget when my mother called me into the living room to tell me about something she saw on the news, and immediately got pissed off that I didn't instantly turn as emotional as she did.  Hell, she started bitching me out on the phone the other day, when I was telling her about the maintenance report of a car I was looking at, and she kept inventing wild stories and got pissed off when I kept talking.  Or how two shots of tequila means it's time for "everyone needs to hear about great and yet awesome my my childhood was, and then yours, so I can go to sleep crying and smiling".  Good Lord.

Last weekend my father came to see me, and while we were checking an iPad in a supermarket (he wants one. I am not too fond of Apple in general, but I admit that, for the purpose he wants it, it kind of makes sense). Anyway, he insisted he was going to show me a youtube video which he liked a lot. He did so. It was horrid. I commented on it. "Dad, the landscapes are beautiful, but the music is strident, and the guy jumping in front of them is annoying too". He told me "BUt it's a highly acclaimed youtube video!". "No, dad, it's not highly acclaimed. In fact, look here. It has only been played TWICE."

Ah yes, parents and the Internet.  My mother has a Facebook page, and constantly pesters me to get one, which I don't because I don't want my mother to be the first person on my friends list.

My father posts on hotrodder forums, and has fallen in love with humorous picture websites.  The first entry on his bookmark list - Cats That Look Like Hitler.
