The bird that couldn't fly in the rain is dead. Those that remained dry or remained flying live on to produce more young that will carry the torch of life throughout the generations until they can peck flightless crows to death.

Except that there are too many of those birds, so genetic drift just counteracts that.

Realm's day, commune and Landthing. Parliament, that is, and two other's I don't know the right translations/equivalents of. Two local governments with different responsibilities.

edit: Wikipedia tells me that Kommun is "Municipality", and Landsting is "County Council". When you skip to the English version of their respective page, that is. Don't know how accurate it is.
