I dunno, you guys have survived Thomas the tank engine, golems, zombies, nuclear explosions, laser whales, and being on the same team as ragnarock.  I don't think something as tame as a world ending rain of lava will even slow you guys down.

Shinsplints from running after the bus. Holy OW this hurts. Remember kids: Don't run two miles in sandals on pavement. You'll just rattle your knees apart.

But it's not universal.  The problem with pretending to be competent, is that if you do a good enough job, eventually somebody's going to expect you to actually pull some smarts out of your ass.  And so I find myself, in a room full of intelligent people, discussing ideas that I know I can understand, that I should understand, but I don't.  And an opinion is expected of me.

And I have absolutely nothing to say.

Huh.  What were you supposed to have an opinion about?

Oh, right, almost forgot. Math may be a little iffy this year with a professor that has a thick accent and likes to hurry through things. Thankfully I should already know most of this stuff from the Spring, but it's still discouraging to have a professor like this. I also have to spend most of the day away from home, and away from our puppy. And I just KNOW my dad will teach him some bad habits when I'm gone.

@Aqizzar: might just be "stage fright?"  I know I have trouble with that sometimes... I really know the answers, but I can't pin anything down long enough to actually discuss it.

Just relax.  You'll be fine =)

That's the best kind of professor.  Be good to him and he'll be very, very good to you.

Especially if he has nervous tics and no fashion sense.  I speak from experience.

Huh.  What were you supposed to have an opinion about?

Plato's Republic.  Specifically the first two books, with all the early rambling about the meaning of justice.  I didn't read it as well as I should have, and more importantly didn't read the reams of footnotes about the details, so I had no real idea what was going on.  I thought it was just Socrates and some guys he knew having a drunken argument.  I didn't know he was supposed to be trying to teach the rich sons of Athens' government about their role in society.

@Aqizzar: might just be "stage fright?"  I know I have trouble with that sometimes... I really know the answers, but I can't pin anything down long enough to actually discuss it.

No opinion was really asked of me, it's just a lecture course.  But I tried to offer an opinion, like everyone else in the room who obviously read it better, and I think I made a fool of myself.  As I learned from another thread on this board, no one ever thinks about the things you say as much as you do.  So I'm not too worried about it.  I just need to read the notes and interpretation, and get serious about a reading schedule.

As I learned from another thread on this board, no one ever thinks about the things you say as much as you do.

I can tell you from experience this is not a universal fact. I'm a mixture of the creepiest and most well-respected, kind guy at the school. Everybody loves me, but when I think something I am going to say it. And they're ALWAYS listening and over-analyzing it. No way around it. For example, today we were discussing Last of the Mohicans and were talking about how the Settlers brought all sorts of diseases to the New World. Cue this one man conversation between an Native American and a Pilgrim:

NA: So, friend, we've taught you to farm, hunt, and stay warm in our lands. Perhaps you could give us some coin or food as payment?

P: Yeah, see, we're actually out of money. Could we pay you with... AIDS?

----

On a more serious note, that girl I've been going out with for a while now? Rough patch. I keep trying to call her, but I chicken out. But I know I need to talk to her, and I'm going to, but as I said earlier, WHY MUST I FEEL.

I had an awesome idea for something to do.

Then my NIC decided to be shit, so I fixed it.

Now I've forgotten what it was. FUCK YOU MEMORY.

I know this pain. Now I have a programming professor with a similar accent. The math prof was last year. Vector is correct.
