Yeah,  but think: You are a vampire. Biting someone makes them into one of you. Wouldn't you start biting the fuck out of everything that moves? Just to spite that catholic ninja?
Then what about the godlike time-stopping mages?

Specifically, Daybreakers.

I liked that movie. I found it hilarious how, because pretty much everyone is immortal with no more non-vampiric health problems, everyone was constantly smoking.

I found bats being one of the last uninfected mammals due to flight being an interesting point, but not much outside of that was cool. Besides, what virus would explode en mass when exposed to UV radiation? I hate movies that do soft science, like Avatar. Either have a justifiably hard science universe, or don't. Half-assing it makes me rage.

Most vampires require some sort of lengthy ritual to create other vampires, to prevent that from happening. Biting them just makes thralls, which are literally farmed for blood.

I am a horror to watch movies with. I complain about everything that isn't internally consistent. Doesn't stop me from enjoying the movie though, I like complaining about the inaccuracies.

There's a middle ground, where a sucky movie is not hateable. I am speaking of course of the admirable middle ground achieved by Paul Verhoeven.

No. I'm saying that I hate the middle portion of scientific hardness in media. For example, I don't hate Mass Effect for having FTL and Biotics because it justifies it with the existance of Element Zero. Daybreakers has a virus that explodes because of sunlight, and I hate that. Avatar has unjustified human marty sue elven aliens, and I hate that. It has shown technology for constructing beings from the ammino acids up, to justify the Avatars, and I like that. It has unobtainium to use for FTL, and I like that. It has Colonel Miles Quartich, and I love that. It kills Colonel Miles Quartich, and I hate that.

It does have one of the best deus ex machina's of any movie though, in that it actually makes some sense without invoking prophesy crap. The planet consists of what amounts to a neural network more vast and complicated than humans by several orders of magnitude which is implied to be some sort of superintelligent entity. The thing that annoyed me the most is the lack of depth into which they explored that avenue... They could have made a much more interesting plot IMO if they focused more on that bit rather than the nature hippies who were too uneducated to understand what the advanced bio-tech embedded in their planet was. Not to mention, it doesn't even begin to explore the evolutionary roots of said planet, which I would think to be quite interesting. Such systems wouldn't arrise except in some pretty extraordinary conditions. That of course is assuming the planetwide neural network actually did evolve, rather than existing as some sort of post-humanist experiment or even end result of post-humanism sweeping a planet.

As for Quartich, from what little I've read, it was implied he may be back in a sequel due to said technology able to construct beings from the amino acids up. Cloning: the easiest sci-fi way to make an antagonist come back every movie. Or to quote Monty Python: I'm not dead yet!

The way I saw it, they just stole the plot from Sid Mier's Alpha Centauri. One should also consider that the planetary hive mind might not be helping the Navi, so much as it is keeping them in Stone Age squaller forever so they never have the power to rival or kill it.
