My back pain is getting worse... I'm being woken up by pain while sleeping, and when I wake up in the morning, I literally can't sit upright, push myself up off my stomach, or even rotate onto my side without serious pain. It subsides a to a dull ache once I push through it and get on my feet, and don't notice the pain until strain to the area makes it flare up again.
I want to make a medical appointment and see how bad it might be, and what I can do about it, but my buddies and I have been planning for months to go on a 3-day backpacking trip through a rocky, forested canyon valley, and we're planning on leaving tonight. Still, if sleeping on a futon on the padded floor of an apartment is this painful. . I'm probably going to die sleeping on the rocky ground, with an insulated bedroll and pad... and carrying 50 lbs of gear everywhere I go.
I'm thinking I'm going to go with the stupid, but far more fun option of backpacking anyway, and I'll look into medical once I totally screw my back up this weekend. Huzzah for elective stupidity!

The minecraft forums in general are rather soul-crushing, but This thread in particular makes me unsure if there are a good number of trolls on the forums or actual idiots.

The thread isn't deeply worrysome... honestly that's a mindset pretty deeply-rooted in mankind, and I've come to accept that. Even so, the guy talking about "getting rid of nature" was 60% trolling, and only 40% ignorant. Though closed minds, and the self-righteous impulse to "civilize" the world, are pretty deep-rooted in the human tradition, many of us know better now. For those who don't, the best way to counter things like that are to respectfully present your opinion and knowledge as another possibility, and don't let it turn into an argument or conflict (that just makes them cling to their dogma more).
As for the trolling, I tend to enjoy intelligent trolls at work, but the ones that refuse to admit or recognize that they're just being contrary anusbrains are usually more frustrating, and less entertaining. Still, I suppose I've got an impish streak myself, and enjoy a good practical joke.

For example, "on a curious lizard. . . he fastened scales taken from other lizards, dipped in quicksilver, which trembled as it moved, and after giving it eyes, a horn and a beard, he tamed it and kept it in a box. All the friends to whom he showed it ran away terrified." Basically, he "made" a pet dragon for himself, and showed it off, scaring folks.
