'Peaceful' march to Parliament seems to have gone to hell. Rubber bullets and stun grenades allegedly fired, after protesters stormed the Parliamentary precinct. Apparently there are police clashing with police. The
EFF has been evicted from Parliament itself for disruptive behaviour after constantly chanting 'fees must fall'. Apparently bricks thrown. No-one actually knows what's going on. I'm not sure, but there may be protesters fighting protesters.
Welcome to South Africa, where if you don't get instant gratification you're allowed to throw a tantrum and resort to violent force first thing. This is like something out of a bad book or movie.
Edit: oh hey, now tear gas has been used. Just waiting for someone to die. Maybe people will actually come back to their senses then.
Edit:
Struggle hero Frank Chikane's son, Kgotsi surrounded by police at Parliament.
The irony is thick enough to choke on.
They should drag them out of parliament
I am praying that this person isn't in the crowd.
Edit: The crowd seems a lot less angry right now. Hope it sticks, don't think anyone's been seriously injured. Edit: hahaha ten more flashbangs, or so it seems, maybe not.
Hopefully final edit: They got what they wanted.
Minister Blade Nzimande is attempting to (finally) address students outside Parliament but singing makes it impossible to hear
Ladies, gentlemen, and others, South Africa.
