Where are you located? I could send you some if you want - it's fairly common around here.

I have to take a Philosophy course (Logic) first semester... my major course (Computer Science, Introduction To) conflicts with every other class I have, apparently. Sads were had :c

Hey, if done properly, logic can be fairly interesting. Gets you to understand day-to-day logic better, too, and makes you question implicit assumptions.

I say that as a mathematician though, so YMMV.

I always wondered what the big deal about formal logic is, since logic seems pretty easy so long as you don't need to solve confusingly-worded puzzles. Maybe I should actually try to teach myself and see how much I will cry.

If you wonder what the big deal is, go look into model theory :P

If Ace Attorney has taught me anything, it's that basic logic is a sort of superpower that is to be praised and admired.

Telemarketer decided to phone, asking after my dad. We get stupid amounts of phone calls and these guys had rang a few times already today.

So, I gave them a rather sarcastic answer of 'Unless you have a Ouija board, you're not contacting him.'

Annoyingly, although I feel justified, I also feel bad for losing my rag somewhat.
In my experience, telemarketers are impervious to sarcasm. Don't feel bad about that.
Also: they'd called several times in the same day and you only responded with mild sarcasm ? That's some pretty good self control. I'd have farted in the receiver and hung up, cackling hysterically, or some similar nonsense...

For a few months last year I abused NSAIDS to deal with mild chronic ear pain (which is still happening even though I stopped taking the pills), and for about half a year I was lactose-intolerant while believing it was something else and eating a bunch of dairy.

Between those two things, my digestive systems are all kinds of fucked up.  Probably because of all this, I have a seriously bad case of Acid Reflux right now and I'm pretty sure my stomach acid came up into my throat.  Even with lozenges my throat hurts like hell, and I called out of work even though I'm on my first 90 days and I'm not even going to enjoy myself because all I can think about is the pain.

Here in Finland, one can ask one's teleoperator to set calls from withheld numbers to be automatically rejected. Can that be done in your country? Even if it can't, can't you just manually reject the calls by pressing that red handset icon?

Isn't there something like a no-call list you can ask to be put on? Because those should be a thing.

The NSAID thing I've got to deal with a bit, too. Ranitidine or omeprazole are both available over the counter and do a lot to help if you take them regularly, in my experience. Standard calcium antacids can sometimes help in the short term, too. Won't do anything to help your throat immediately, though.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

The actual wording you want to use is "Take me off your call list."  At least if they're in the US.  It's kinda stupid but some people will ignore the inverse instruction because there is, technically, no do not call list.

Good luck and quick healing with the whole acid reflux thing, EnigmaticHat.

I'm starting to feel really lonely again... It's sort of hard to describe, really. Two more weeks until school starts again... I'm strangely looking forward to it. At least I can try, then, and it helps with this feeling.
