I... I have no idea what you just said. o___________o
People are attacking video games as if they're the cause of youth culture today rather than a symptom.

Do... Games influence children that much?
Swearing, yes, but I can't see how games would have that much of an impact on a child's mental health.

Only a little in regard to reward perception IIRC or something like that. The thing is they're looking to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

Well what else can you blame for kids' behaviour? The parents?

Well, it's illegal for children to play the game.
Schools tend not to approve of their students doing illegal stuff. Underage drinking, smoking weed, beating Little Timmy's head in with a tyre iron, having sex in the library, jaywalking, egging a teacher's house... I think any of those would elicit a fairly harsh reaction from most principals, regardless of how harmful they actually are. Not sure why anyone would expect the school to be okay with students playing 18+ videogames.

They don't have to be okay with it, but it's outside their sphere of influence.

Well, it's illegal for children to play the game.
I believe you are incorrect.
Many variations of this were found which states it is illegal to sell the game below its recommended age, not that it is illegal to play.

If you can source me toward the laws that contradict my belief I would appreciate it.

It might be that Aussieland has some dumbfuck laws that actually criminalise playing games. It wouldn't surprise me.

Well, having played violent vidya gaems since i was like 3 or 4 years old, i can confirm that it hasn't made me an overly violent or aggressive individual, since i've always been able to tell games from reality. The worst thing(s) about it is that i've wasted a LOT of time on games, and there might also be some kind of "soft" addiction going on. :U (and by soft i mean i don't get physical withdrawal symptoms)
I think it's more of a "i have spent much of my relatively tormented childhood in safety here so i feel safe here" thing, since i'm not always gaming, and i'm not constantly craving to be there.

And in sad news, i find myself still falling behind on classes despite having reduced work load (4 courses instead of 6) at uni. I'm going to try hanging on till summer at least, but i'm starting to doubt whether i can feasibly continue past that without risking further stress sickness. My actual dreams for my own future are seeming more and more like pipe dreams, and in general it's not easy to get up in the mornings when you feel that your dreams are unachievable and there's no reason to spend energy on them. So naturally, i find myself seeking an easy way to support myself while trying to make my dreams less unachievable, but alas, there is no such thing as an easy way to support oneself (and if there is/was, everyone would be taking it anyways). This brings us to me today: A lazy daydreamer in a world where hard work is paramount, and i'm not lucky enough to strike gold anywhere. :/

I'm tired of this. Of living in fear. Of living in silence.
I just want it all to end (and no, before you panic, not that way).
I already panicked as a defensive measure.

Being known as the most unfeeling human being by all the people I know IRL, I can assure that people usually feel better for knowing someone trusts them, tough you probably should think trough before telling him that, since he will feel way better than you about that, and you might trust him less after.
You already got similar-minded(=insane) people on this forum, and I think bay12 is very safe, so you can probably use this forum as a safe heaven and try to search for people around here, and working your way up on social networks(Those, tough, aren't very safe or welcoming.)

Just my two cents tough, do whatever you feel comfortable doing...

Ugh. Got 5 hours of sleep last night. I need more sleep.

My roommate, meanwhile, snores absurdly loudly and sleeps soundly all night. I swear, he gets waken up by his alarm clock for an 8:00 class, which he hits snooze on and ignores and is back to sleeping and snoring loudly in less than a minute. How in the hell can one go to sleep that fast. It disgusts me. Because I can't do that shit.

Ex-father-in-law passed away this morning. He was a really great guy.

Fuck you, cancer.

I want to do something about it, but the only options I have is either fucking everything up right now, or waiting some time to have a sliiim chance of not fucking it up.
I don't think I can stand much longer.
*hugs* *hugs* *all the hugs*

Time's on your side with this, please don't act too soon. You can afford to wait.

My condolences, Redking.
