I am in agony. For the past few weeks I've had this persistent stitch in my left side. I thought it was just from sleeping wrong, because that's when it manifests, but lately it's been getting worse, and I started feeling it tonight after I got home from Santa Monica. I tried to sleep, but it woke me up suddenly at around 3 AM and no my side is randomly pulsing with pain no matter if I'm lying, sitting, or standing.

I am a bit worried about this but don't know whether I should wake up the folks or anything.
Probably worth seeing a doctor if its persistant.

They aren't as bad as a tabloid in this case at least. If you vet them independently you can verify.

Buzzfeed link:
http://www.buzzfeed.com/dominicholden/gender-nonconforming-person-fatally-stabbed-in-ohio#.srqk7dLpV

ABC News Local Affiliate:
http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/oh-summit/man-52-charged-in-stabbing-death-of-22-year-old-son

There is a great big issue in dispute here, it's the individual's transgender status. Nobody is disputing that some transitioning was going on and the name "Bri" was used (and there's a picture and a profile page) at least at one point or another, but this person may have chosen to try and live as a boy recently. It's hard to say for sure and why they chose this, and it's really difficult to verify for sure, because the person is dead and didn't seem to have left any writings on the topic. In the case of dead individuals who may very well be transgendered the news media and yes even and especially the family have a history of misgendering the person to help them deal with their grief over their loved one's death ( whether it is what the departed wanted or not). Also when a transgender person who was in the closet or something like that dies, it's a messy situation in that regard.

So while we know the departed 22 year old did take steps towards transitioning at some point, we also know that they backed off that path and were presenting less feminine traits recently. We'll never know if this was a permanent choice, because the person is dead at 22. Was this due to family non acceptance? Very possibly seeing as how the dad killed this person while claiming his "son" was in a cult and attacked by its members. Was this done to be with the woman they were engaged to (transgender women can still like other women)? Who knows.

Point being, this person set up a facebook profile under the name "Bri" and posted pictures featuring themself in female clothing (tops and skinny jeans mostly) while wearing makeup and eyeliner. Trans Ohio, a transgender support group confirmed this person came to them ... The family is VERY religious and VERY upset at anybody calling their dead relative transgender despite said dead relative calling themself trans. This person was at one time calling themself trans and judging by the fact that their dad stabbed 'em to death in the freaking neck, I'd say family acceptance was never going to be a thing here.... And, are you ready for the real tragedy? This person took their dad into their home, said dad stole from them and some think after 2 years of this crap they were finally throwing their dad out. Wait a minute. 2 years ago is when they invited their non trans friendly dad to live with them instead of the street and 2 years ago is when they started acting more male................... Ooooooooo.

22 is too damn young to die, and I'm betting you transgender status had something to do with it, tragically. "Gender non conforming," whatever. Now you can use whatever damn label you want, but you know what I mean. I think this person's dad freaking stabbed them to death in part because they didn't fix squarely into the "male" label.

Transgender people keep getting killed, especially in Ohio, and it always starts a flaming shitstorm in the media, with their families and just.... blah it's overwhelming.

Yet another reason I don't wanna be quoted.

You should go to the doctor about that. Among other things, it could be appendicitis.

I was thinking maybe hernia. But yes, it's doctor time if it has been going on for more than a week and is getting worse.

Appendicitis would be pain starting at the belly button and migrating to the right, so at least it probably isn't that.

It subsided enough after about an hour that I got back to sleep, but I think it is indeed doctor time. It's probably not going to go away on its own, I fear.

Urgh. This hurricane has hit and, on the bright side- it's incredibly passive. Only about two people have lost some (poorly constructed) architecture to the winds, the rest is just pretty casual.
But it hasn't stopped raining for a Week.
I don't even know what to do with a week's worth of rain; and apparently neither does Australia. Everything is flooded, nobody can get to work- and our house is beginning to cultivate a rather entertaining musty scent.

Get one of those dehumidifiers if you can. It's cheaper and easier than getting rid of fungus colonies.

+1. When we needed one, it did the job well. Still surprising to see how much water they can pull from the air.

I really, truly have no idea why Monopoly has become the standard party game. If only the default board game were Diplomacy...

Our campus library literally has a pile of Monopoly boxes in the window. It's probably meant to be to advertise it, but all it really says is "hey, this game doesn't sell".

Monopoly is fun if you're playing with the right people.

There are maybe 4 of those people on the planet.
