you need something even more pressing and unpleasant to avoid so that the stuff you're avoiding now changes from a chore to am excuse to not do the new thing. Then you'd do that stuff and just be left with the one undone thing.

So I occasionally see this girl I've had a crush on sitting out in front of my dorm, which is way out in the middle of nowhere really, so she must be waiting for someone, and I've been thinking I'm totally gonna make some small talk to her and stuff 'cause I'm pretty sure she's single and it wouldn't hurt to at least try and at least make a friend or something right and so I've been thinking about what I'm gonna say and daydreaming and shit all today and uuuuuuugh.

Mang, screw this girl. And emotions. I'm obviously not going to say anything or do anything but I hype myself up anyway and I don't need these complications in life.
