Bleh. Have had this cold the last couple days that makes my head feel like it's stuffed full of cotton. Headaches, constantly tired, constantly snorting mucus back up my nose, and it's hard to sleep at night. Developing a cough.

this cold is killing my mood. Don't feel like doing anything. Being unproductive makes my mood feel worse. Starting to have another "what is my life aaaaargh i'm such a failure" existential moments.

I was having fun with a friend on Lethal League and I beat him twice, Then says he played the game for fun and so do I, and he calls me a tryhard... I feel bad.   

I've never seen why "try hard" is an insult. IMO it should be a complement if anything, since it means you are playing the game at a higher level.

The point of a game (especially with friends) is not to win, per se, but to have fun. Winning does not *mean* anything, the score resets and you start over and nobody really cares.

"tryhards" are people who don't understand that. They use every abusive tactic, every cheesy move, anything that can to win regardless of how boring/unfun it makes the game... especially for other people. They follow the letter of the rules (otherwise they would be cheaters not tryhards) but they don't follow the spirit of the rules.

For example: In left 4 dead, there were times when the game would spawn a lot of zombies (you had to open a door that set off an alarm or something like that) and you were supposed to defend till the end, then move on. This gave the players who were playing the special zombies a chance to attack you.

The "tryhard" move was to abuse the game's spawning mechanic and just charge straight ahead. The game could only allow so many zombies at once, so if you got ahead of the zombie spawn (not hard to do) there were literally no zombies - it was a clear, free run to the exit. Because of the way enemy player zombies worked, it was extremely difficult for them to get ahead of you to set an ambush too. Making it worse, since you won as a team, and since if someone else got caught you can't stop to save them (otherwise the zombies catch up) it was "every man for himself" in what was supposed to be a cooperative game.

Not (exactly) cheating, and it was the optimal technique to win... but it also sucked all the fun out of it for everyone else (especially the enemy team) and just ruined the game. And that's why "tryhard" is an insult.
