Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

Because I'll be purple again!
Also, cold is terrible! I freeze! -40C isn't healthy!

((I turn purple in cold weather, blood thing. Who knows why.))

Good news: The thermal paste on my heatsink was replaced. It turns out that the paste was so dried out that it may as well have not been there.

Bad news: That wasn't what was screwing with my desktop. It is currently gone, and hopefully my friend can find out what is wrong with it.

Workplace drama. We're already stressed from the situation from earlier, now people are talking of quitting, and are demanding that they not be scheduled to share one single minute in the same room as each other.
I'm trying to be Switzerland here, but as an empathetic person, it's difficult to stay sane in the situation.

I'm thinking myself into a depressed stupor as I worry too much about my future and career and goals and my lack of a clear plan for a college major. Also I have no friends. ~35,000 students on this campus and I have no friends. Shit makes me feel lonely, yo.

So, I've made myself sad. GG, me.

Join a club? Or *gasp* a fraternity??
The problem with that is that it involves people. And regular social gatherings of groups of people. Who I don't know. Yeah. I'm not good at people. Really not my thing.

I usually don't mind being by myself most of the time, except when I really think about it. I think too much. I'd imagine a fraternity would fix that by providing booze to drown my anxiety away, but then I'd have the new problem of being a depressed alcoholic. Because I'd probably develop alcoholism from trying to drown anxiety away. And again, fraternity sounds like there'd be people and groups. Not my thing.

I'm just having a lousy day of worrying about things too much.

Hm, unfortunately you do need people in order to have friends, since friends are made of people. So there's a bit of dissonance there. What you're probably getting at, I expect, is that it's large gatherings that unnerve you. The way around this is to realize that, no matter how many people are in the room, you're not really ever interacting with more than a couple at a time. Anybody outside your immediate conversation might as well not exist, aside from noise. You're not really dealing with a big group, you're dealing with a small cluster of people who just happen to be embedded in a bunch of other ones.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Sorry, but I have to say that being anti social won't help you make friends...cause that usually involves being social.
