Okay guys, I really need some hugs right now. And possibly cute animal pics. Please? Like, really, really, really.
If you send me your location, I'll air-hug the general direction.
Until then, PM box is open, as always, as with all of us, I guess.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I have to think about it, because the problem was I was repressing it. I'm in California... hug at me.
Done. I hope I got the various angles right, earth curvature is a bitch.

I was reminded of a baby I saw once in a ward I visit. He couldn't have been older than a year, lying in that pram, but had tubes going from his arms to two bags mounted on an IV pump. Each one was almost as large as he was, with one full of a crimson fluid - presumably blood - and another with a chemotherapy drug.

I don't know the baby's name, and I've never spoken to his parents. I'm going through something similar, and I've met other patients, but I had never seen someone that young. The image stuck with me.

I don't think it's something I'll ever forget.
