TIL my grandmother is my grandfather.

Her reaction was unexpected. I didn't think she would respond to the fact that my mom talks trash and spreads rumours about her family with what is basically an "oh well, why bother doing anything about it?".

Perhaps ask why and directly say you need help there? As in, what can she (or the rest of your family) advise when 'x-case scenario' occurs?

The only advice I've gotten from anyone so far is "just ignore her". Kind of hard for me to do, since I don't even live with her at the moment and she is still capable of bothering me.

They've always taken a passive approach when issues with my mom arise. It's just easier than arguing with her.

Plus she's used me as leverage a few times to get what she wants out of my dad's family. There were a few months when I was young where she threatened to leave the country with me and block all contact with them. She even tried to convince me of this, randomly packing things in the house and saying that we were leaving soon.
