Honestly, math also turned out to be a useless degree.

Every degree is useless therefore no degree is useless, using the "everything = nothing" axiom from the Syndrome school of thought.

Every degree is useless

Not true.  A PolySci B.A., for example, makes great tinder on a cold winter's night.  With the right ink, the flames can be beautifully coloured, as well; with a heavy enough paper stock, it'll start a good blaze even in a mild to moderate breeze.

What does R.E. actually stand for?

Resident Evil? Depends on the context.

And how many thousands did you pay for your tinder? :P

Ninja: Religious Education. I can effectively argue about the problem of evil and suffering, religious morality, the design argument, utilitarianism and religious experience. And scholarly quotes for all occasions!

Extra Ninja: My context wasn't a Resident Evil context, it was a Relative Evil context  :)

here? Religious Education. A subject that seems to involve memorising a large number of arguments (some of which are very flawed) for/against a religious viewpoint and writing them all down in the exam to the detriment of your hand.

* sjm9876 is not a fan of the subject

One simple, simple question. WHY?

Wouldn't joining a debate club be similar but with more fun and less memorisation?

Yes, gotta love the counterfactual hypothesis, or how about Hick's epistemic distance? Eh, you may lose your eschatological incentive somewhere along the way though, and ad baculum arguments are annoying. Perhaps also tou shall be lost down epistemological queer street? Whatever tickles your fancy :P

I like the classwork, not the exam. My R.E. classmates both respect and fear me, hard line creationists/Divine Command Ethics proponents that they are  ;)

And, as stated earlier, I'm good at it.

Well in my case it was compulsory up until i dropped it :P

There's also some vaguely interesting philosophical stuff there, but a large amount of it is buried beneath arguments of 'Bible says this.'
(just to clarify, not intended as an insult to religion whatsoever - it's just that even one of my friends who wants to be a priest despises it)

(nor as an insult to those who do enjoy it. Each to their own :P )

I recognised nearly half those terms. I feel good about myself.

My craving for fear, love, and argument was generally satisfied by being one of the most killer third speakers in the city. Plus, not too much writing!

Hehe. It's less "The bible says" more "Cicero, Swinburne, Epicurus, Hume, Hick, Dawkins, Platinga, Flew, Mitchell, Mill, Bentham, and a host of others say..." :/

And I am a member of the Debating Society, but this way I get to do something I like, put up with a killer exam at the end of the year, and get four A levels instead of three.

So did you get half a gcse for having to do it? I did, and it was forever useless.

Nope, got a whole free A*. Would have been more useful to spend that option on Latin even, if they'd let me :/

I'm so freakin' tired. Only 3 1/2 hours of work left, though, and I should have internet at the new apartment tonight. Also, tomorrow off.
