I haven't really celebrated any birthdays ever since I was 10, but I always thought that cakes are just ornaments. It's people we love that make birthdays special. Like you, Owlga. Janet loves you. You don't need a cake to make her birthday good, you only need yourself.

Now go and make those two hours the best in your wife's life! You can do it!

I'd start playing some 80s porno music, but I'd probably get shot.

...What makes me sad is...err, that others are sad? Which is totally not related to anything. Just that others are sad = me sad.
Yeah, my empathy is weird.
Empathy is not weird! How many times I have to tell you this?

Mah Sads: So my first day of my new medicine was today. It helps to keep me from getting angry, at least, but it makes me feel kinda...
Bleagh. Also I found out that I need to remember to blink because apparently I haven't been feeling when I need to blink and it's making my eyes dry out. This is probably not a normal side-effect, because it was not listed as one.

Oh yeah, it's business time.

As a person who gets really touchy around their birthday, you have my sympathies, Owlga. If Janet's as bad as I am, it's not a pleasant day. This, too, shall pass.

Yeah I meant no meat and just fish. I'm not taking the most time to type right now.

And I know it seems silly for her to be so depressed about this for some people, but while most people had this kinda stuff in their childhood she never really did. But she had to watch other people in her family actually get to celebrate. So I can definitely get where she's coming from.

Depression is never silly, as a general rule.

Poor, poor Janet. If I send her my rug that is made of a wolf I killed with an ice axe in Siberia as a gift, would that help?

I don't believe anyone thinks it silly. We might act silly in an attempt to boost the mood, though :)

...I fully understand this situation. Probably differing context, but I get it all the same.

We could share stories if its ok...

I get where she's coming from, too. I had a similar childhood. My birthday was always getting "moved" or "postponed", but often forgotten or overlooked - and it was always just mine. A lot of the time I not only didn't get "presents" or anything, but a cake even, once or twice nobody even mentioned it. so... I think I can seriously empathize with her - it's not a fun feeling at all. you tend to feel worthless by comparison. my suggestion: make sure she knows she's loved, and that she matters to you. Do something special for her. You probably already did, but, just my thoughts.

(I'm not sure why my birthday's always been like that. I think I just got the short end of the stick when it came to parent-child favoritism. I feel bad for her. (her birthday's just a day ahead of mine, too - it's my birthday now. (and I hate my birthday, lol, so that's my sad.)))

Unless you're all sad, which is weird given the tone I read your words in. xD
