I've had people say they were unable to determine my gender when I was a High School freshman, but they might have just been being shitheads. I do have amazingly luxurious eyelashes, though. Still, these days I don't think there is any way any person could ever reasonably mistake me for a women. Not many women have constant shadow, shoulders as wide as a doorway, or are 6'1'' (though I have seen a few women taller than me, mostly volleyball players).

The unfortunate side effect of that, however, is that I do get called "sir" all the time, even by people who know me. I have a name, goddamnit!

So explain it with more words. There are enough in the english language that you can find some sort of equivalent, even if it takes a paragraph. I don't believe in the least it's impossible to make an accurate comparison.

It's like endure + acceptance, that's the best description I can give. You know when you're about to eat a shit sandwich and you just "chow down"? Or when you bite a bullet? It's like that, but combined with endure. It's all quite subtle which is why I gave the example of gloaming, something that differs from English counterparts on similar lines.
