Bacon Thinly-sliced pieces of dead pig does taste pretty amazing, I have to admit. I used to always prefer it crispy, though- like, "burnt onto the bottom of the pan so that it has to be scraped off with a knife" kind of crispy.
If it wasn't burnt, I never liked it.

...Dem liddle piggies are just too cute, though! How can I even speak about eating them?!

Here in the states, we call that stuff "Axle Grease".

Good bacon has slightly browned fatty marbles and the entire surface has texture like well cured leather. It is pliable and soft, but not floppy or scrunchy (scrunchy bacon always has bits of uncooked fat on it). Oh, and it has to be thick and meaty (less than half fat).

Yeah, I'm not too fond of marmite either... Honestly give me nutella. That stuff is pretty much candy spread.

Burnt bacon makes me sad. As a kid, I didn't like the crispy lean parts, only the floppy, translucent fatty parts. I had my folks basically leave my bacon half-uncooked.

Pork is the meat of the gods, IMHO. More tender (and ecologically friendly*) than beef, more flavorful than chicken. Turkey is pretty good too.



*As long as we're talking relatively small-scale pork production. Industrial pork farms mean hog lagoons, which are some of the most horrific things ever created. Birds literally drop dead from flying over one. Falling into one is almost certain death.

See, I can't have a problem eating animals. On one hand, chickens, turkeys and pigs all live on molten malice. Given half an excuse, they'd rip your guts out and eat them while you begged for mercy. Cows are generally not like that, but they're so stupid that they probably wouldn't notice me wandering up to one and just gnawing on it.

Well, yeah. How else would I know how adorable they are? I used to just think they were like hairless sheep with curly tails and a mud fetish.
But they're so much more.

Pigs are cool and all, but still too tasty to let anthropomorphic sentimentality cloud my feelings. Chickens.....fuck chickens. Giant chickens would rip us to shreds with but the merest glint in their reptilian eyes. Even a chicken the size of a person would make the Jurassic Park velociraptors look tame by comparison.

I've seen them mercilessly kill any weak members of their flock. But then again, I've also seen them do some pretty cool stuff... Like this one hen who adopted another's chicks when she stopped taking care of them. That was a heart-warming moment.

Dogs attacked the chicken coop. After we had driven them off, the chickens started eating the wounded alive. We had left their beaks untrimmed as a kindness, but we came to realize our mistake.
