my teacher says I can't type essays, because some people don't have laptops and it wouldn't be "fair."

Where are you from that the standard of education is this poor?

HAY. MY STANDARD OF EDUCATION IS THAT POOR.

We have typewriters, thank you very much. You can keep your heathen technology to yourself.

This reminds me of the time I helped those 2nd graders... Imagine around 20 hungry kids in a small room. one book for every... 3-4 kids. I felt so sad.

Yeah, back in High School I used to teach catechism at a nearby (Public) elementary school. Public schools are government funded. Our government is incredibly poor. Do the math. (The kids can't, because their math is 1-2 years behind).

Educational standards here are abysmal.

Damn, and I thought Hawaii's educational system was shit.
Well, it still is, but that's horrible.

There are a lot of Filipinos (Ilocanos, specifically) in Hawaii. I really hope they didn't move there for the education, if what you're saying is true.

The horrid thing is, most of those kids come to school hungry as hell. We had this project where we would make huge tubs of food, like soup or a sort of rice porridge (forgot the name :P), and there still would be a long line of little waifs waiting for food. they were all so... small and undernourished. Most Filipinos here are the descendants of migrants who came to work on the sugar plantations.
I actually have quite a few Filipino friends, one of whom makes jokes about the fact that one of my dogs is black and has a gimpy leg.

Meanwhile, I just burned myself on accident.
The part that makes this deserve a post is that I liked it.

Yes, yes they are. Our country's biggest export is, and always has been, people.

(what kinds of jokes?)

Sad because I finally get around to taking some screenshots of my colour scheme in the game "Dawn of War" and now I cannot find the long-dead thread in which I posted the code for my colour scheme without screenies...

If I don't Necro something soon, I might explode...

Yeah, our school system is great. Government funded schools are actually pretty good, although lately the standard of students is heading towards where britain is, with most intelligent kids going to private schools.

The healthcare system, though. Well that's different. Our healthcare ranges from Medicare, to 'Take a spoonful of turpentine and harden the fuck up'. The bits in the middle are Medibank, and 'I'm going to kick you until you harden the fuck up'.

My brother said his shoulder hurt. Did he have a cast? Fuck no. Did he get a note excusing him from P.E.? Nope... Did he have a sling? About a month later, when the nurses at the school sick bay realised that he'd ACTUALLY broken his collarbone in three places, and he was just a Hard Arsed Mother.

I'm kinda envious of his pain tolerance. I'm better than average amongst Aussies, but nowhere near his level.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

Learn meditation.
That's how I developed pain tolerance.
Managed to stop a bunch of needles into myself without feeling a thing.
I can handle most pain now.
Just not knives.
Cannot break skin with a blade, unless on accident.

My bones don't break.
I've put them through massive amounts of stress and not even a fracture.
I did run a mile in 9 minutes and 24 seconds with a sprained ankle though.
