Last Stand: Dead Zone finally comes out to Armorgames, and it's just a fun timewaster. I want to be playing, not waiting.
Tried plaaying that game, but damn is it pretty buggy. Wasn't able to get past the tutorial.

Yeah, it's definitely a good idea to get to know your grandparents! Visit them, chat with them, listen to their stories, make them happy.
I wasn't lucky enough to get a chance to meet any of my granparent while they were alive, unfortunately. (Well, not when I was old enough to remember.) At least I traded a few letters with one, but that's it. :-\

My daily sad: Went out today with plans to buy a CD or two that I'd been wanting for a while; got to the shopping centre(or mall, depending on where y'all're from), nerved myself up to go in there with all those crowds etc, and then I realised I was at the wrong store and this one had a much smaller range. >:( I looked around for an alternative purchase, but I couldn't decide on anything and figured I may as well save my money. To top it off the store's speakers were blaring, for the most part, some godawful modern dance music that needs to die.
At least they broke it up with one or two old, funky sort of songs. I probably should've asked what those songs were...
And now I have a terrible headache. :( I had a decent morning, and then it all kinda fell apart. Bah.
[/stupid headachey rant]

That IS pretty disappointing... What were you looking for originally?

The store I'd meant to go to had a few CDs I wanted... A great, local-ish punk band, Billy No Mates, whose debut album I've been meaning to get for ages, or maybe that deluxe CD-DVD package they had of T-Rex's best-of... Amongst others. :P Honestly I'm not sure what I would have actually bought, but I've been hanging out for some new music.

Oooh, digging the Billy! Maybe I can help you cheer up by referring you to a band called The Briefs. Pop punk at its finest. Hope your headache goes away!  :-\

Got back from the funeral yesterday.  I managed to fly out to Atlanta for one day to be there.  My friend is handling the whole thing as well as I could hope.  Everybody is.  I learned a lot while I was there.  I'd known for a long time that his wife had chronic medical problems, but never any details.  It was discussed extensively at the funeral.  Apparently she had cerebral palsy.  It had caused her serious daily suffering for over half her life, and she was continually developing more and more associated problems.  Near the end, it had reached the point where she was in constant agony and couldn't muster the energy to do anything but lie in bed for more than a couple hours out of a day.  Apparently she was ridiculously strong willed, and did a lot more than anyone expected of her with her condition.  Only her closest friends and family even knew that she had such debilitating issues.

On the whole, it was incredibly depressing, but I was really glad that I made it.  I made it through the entire day on a single hour of sleep, after being generally sleep deprived over the last couple weeks.  I handled it alright, but my wife was almost as sleep deprived as me and didn't handle it so well.  I got extremely frustrated with her at times.  By the end of the day, my wife and I were trying to find a hotel to crash at near the airport, and I was falling asleep mid-sentence while trying to act as navigator.  It was dangerous as fuck.  I rode a plane for the 2nd time in my life (the first time was 18 years ago).  Got groped and electronically nakedized by TSA.  I learned to appreciate my friend's ultimate release from her suffering.  I possibly made a new friend.  It was a hell of an adventure overall.

Now I've had a little bit of sleep.... just a little.... and I'm off to Gencon for another exhausting four days.

I'm really sorry that you had to go to that event at all, but am happy you did, and that there is some sort of closure. You were there for your friend, and I'm sure as hell he appreciated it. You've done a good deed, SG.

On another note... You're going to GenCon half sleep-deprived?! You've got quite the few days ahead of you... :P Have fun, man! You deserve it.

Yeah... I didn't get much opportunity to actually talk to him.  He was really busy with the whole event and tons of people wanting to talk to him.  When we did get some time alone, he talked to me about some things he felt guilty about.  They were having serious problems in their marriage, and his last words to her were extremely unfortunate.  I think I was able to offer some really helpful perspective.

Yeah... as much as I love Gencon, this whole situation is just insane.  I hope I'll be able to enjoy myself.  We didn't even get around to signing up for some events until lastnight.

Mentally and physically exhausted. And I still have 7 hours of work left.  :'(

I should go to bed right after dinner today rather than staying up till 2-3am like I have been.

Fuck you, night-owlishness and fuck you insomnia and fuck you Nature for giving me a brain that won't shut the hell up when it's time to sleep.

My electric shaver busted. Also I'm deathly afraid of regular razors (yes yes, you may now insult my manliness). So until I can go buy another electric shaver, I'm being forced to grow a beard. It's not too bad right now, sort of an unkempt goatee, but I need to get this monster under control soon before I turn into a skinny version of Mr. E.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

It looks like, after my final class starts on Monday, I'll have around 11 hours of each weekday devoted to school, and about 1/2 to 2/3 of that on the weekends. This is a rough transition from having maybe an hour of homework half of the days of the week, often none, with an occasional project to work on. Social stuff is also difficult and awkward, as usual, but I'm too tired to care about that. I have no doubt that I can do it; the question is whether or not I will break. I certainly hope I don't, but I've never been "tested" like this before. I think I'm also slightly afraid of going to college. And I hate driving, and have to spend an hour each day doing it.

Tell me about it. I've been eating way too many of them this summer.
