All my money is gone now. Joined a research study, ended up paying over 500 dollars for the privilege.

paid almost 2k in medical bills. Have a 1k deductible but, of course, the "yearly rollover" happens right in the goddamn middle.

Searing lower back pain. DO NOT WANT.
Welcome to my life, man.
Sad part is, I'm pretty sure I know why.
I was practicing marital arts and overexerted myself.

Heh... Marital arts...

O, God... damn. It.

If the psychic advertised herself as being able to make accurate predictions, wouldn't this at least theoretically be possible?

It could still clear false advertising though.  Stopping them from preying on the vulnerable in that way could be useful.

There are so many things wrong with this:

First, all psychics say they can predict the future and it's implied that they can make those predictions accurately. Who's gonna go to the psychic who says they can't see the future? Nobody. So they all lie.

Second, the fact that people still visit psychics, at all.... They'll spend money on somebody who tells them that a, sometimes literal, crystal ball can predict the freaking future. These same people are either reluctant or unwilling to pay me at all to give them legal services and protection for the real world.

Third, the fact that psychics exist.... If you talk to God, or spirits, then you're religious. If God or spirits talk to you, then you're crazy.

I just don't know, man, I might be able to  squeeze it in sideways under fraud or something, but .... Jesus.

In the UK Psychics are supposed to advertise as "for entertainment only". They still don't of course but I'd imagine it makes a lawyers job a bit easier in similar circumstances.

Someone close to me is terminally ill. Her parents went to a New Age Nutritionist who, for a mighty fee, put her on a special diet. After a week it seemed to be doing her harm; A Dietitian confirmed that it was a completely inadequate diet so they stopped it. Would something like this be more clear cut?

Yeah, that wasn't a typo... :-[

EDIT: while taking a walk at lunch, I stretched as a person normally would when they've been sitting for a long period. "Searing pain" suddenly turned into "OMFG KILL ME WITH FIRE". I'm now at home lying in bed with an ice pack. thank god for tablet computers.

Maybe it's cholelitiasis?

"So let me get this straight, you want me to sue the psychic for being wrong....?"
Is... This even possible?

I'd say your lawyer-fu is sufficiently awesome but this is... Something else.

In the UK it should be if the Psychic doesn't specify that their reading is for entertainment purposes only.

No, definitely not a gallstone (I had to Google it). Probably a subluxed muscle or pinched nerve. When it got worse, I suddenly had pulsing waves of pain going down into my legs (both of them evenly). Icepack's helped some...at least I can bend over some now.

Truean, there have been presidents that have been convinced as to the validity of psychics. I think you underestimate the common person, and by extension a jury makeup.

Between 30-40% of the US population regularly go on record as believing strongly in psychic powers, so I think you have an argument that a reasonable person would have fallen prey to this scam.

And this person is clearly incredibly stupid, and thus are even more taken advantage of.
