Did you like... apologise?  That'd probably be enough to make up for it.

Well the fact that I was actually speaking in context of a 15th century country in a video game in a non-insultive manner, I didn't have much to apologize for or to. He just kinda popped his head out of nowhere and told me off for it.

It's like walking past a video game shop, overhearing a word you find offensive, and then backtracking to request the person to not say it again.

Oh, so you were using the older definition of the word?

Oh, so you were using the older definition of the word?

I was using it in the modern slang of it.

Once upon a time, a faggot was a bundle of sticks.
Then it was more reknown for a foodstuff [england].
Then it was known as an insulting and derogative term for homosexuals.
Now it's more widely known as... well, just a term. 4chanfag. newfag. warcraftfag. etc.

That's....not exactly accurate.

That's....not exactly accurate.

It was on-the-fly at best.  :D

But still, you get my meaning. A lot of people are used to cursing.

Now I'm not saying it's entirely acceptable, indeed I keep to respective volume and choice of words in reality. But on the internet, where you can click a little square, or a bit of text to ignore what you've just seen that offends you... it just seems bigotous to actually take a longer path to request somebody to not say that word again, for that one person's benefit, compared to a neutral majority.

Still seems like a stupid word to use.

It sounds like you were trying to be witty, but you just pretty much failed, and looked like an idiot. Plus people still use it for the derogative term, so also what MSH said.

Contradiction? I've never seen it used like that without being insulting.

Unless the person you were talking to was your buddy or something, and you're the type of friends that insult each other for giggles rather than malice.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I consider all Bay12ers my buddies, and I presumed they all considered me likewise. :<

Ah well, not everyone's like that. My friends don't play the insult game, for example. I got no problem with people who do, but yeah.

The 4chan definition shouldn't be the more widely known though. And it isn't. And if you're going to use it, use it correctly, I mean, I'm offended at this point for the word abuse.

#There's no such thing as a 4chanfag.

Well the fact that I was actually speaking in context of a 15th century country in a video game in a non-insultive manner,

Looks like I'm going to have to step in then.
Explanation : The 4chan definition literally covers groups of people, nothing more. In context fag doesn't even refer to homosexuals at all. If someone refers to themself as such a way on 4chan they call themself a lesfag or gayfag. It isn't even meant in an insulting way, and if it is, there's no one to insult, it carries no meaning when you're insulting an anon. Which is why fag became colloquial and the equivalent of saying someone's name (when no name exists). But when you're not anon, it doesn't work the same way. There's a reason why there's #1 and #2

Internet is SRS BSNS. Don't mess with terms you don't understand. It's the cancer of the internet.

Although if they were offended I guess not.

Can we end this and just give each other a big ass internet group hug? Az made a mistake, has shown plenty of remorse and all this talk of 4chan is asking for an invasion, and I doubt bay12 would hold well against one.
