You're gun-shy?
Late response, but yeah. Sound effects are okay, it's just the real thing with all the smoke and stuff.

Ever seen Kojima's mecha games?  He's clearly wanted to make a high-adrenaline overblown action-fighter for a while now, and finally gets his chance.
Those were okay. The combat mechanics weren't exactly stellar but they at least had a little depth. Movement was important even if attacking was just button-mashing. Revengeance just looks boring. Just a bunch of sound and light with little input from the player.

I was in a Five Below (like dollar store, but up to $5), and they started playing the Rickroll song. :(

You're right, Aqizzar--I'm also remembering the cutscenes from Twin Snakes right around now, which sort of puts a new light on things.

On the other hand, take a look at the MGSIV final trailer, which also looked BLOODY RIDICULOUS.

If there were more of a plot/variety of things going on in the trailer, I'd totally be game; "looks like it's trying too hard and taking itself too seriously" is pretty much a staple of the series.  I mean, I'm not that fond of beat-'em-ups, but sure, whatever; I suck at vidja games in general, so it's not like I have much opinion on genre in general.  Right now, though, I'm getting only a couple of ideas from the trailer--"Raiden has snapped and there's a lot of cyborgs to kill, now that the Solid Snake Simulation program has totally died, so now we're going the mechanization route instead of the gene route and stuff."  So... Rose and Little-Raiden?  Of course, if there's more girlfriend psychotherapist codec calls in this, I will laughing my ass off and forking over wads of money.  And, furthermore, a lot of the thematic ideas discussed on the wiki page look frankly brilliant, so if they end up in there (much like MGSIV by no means looked like it was about attempts to break out of patterns/emergent behavior, or that any stealth would be involved at all).

The thing about swordplay is that the really important thing about it, the really non-obvious thing, is the beautiful footwork.  But Raiden just stands there laughing and swinging his sword around.  It's kinda disconcerting--and more than that, I'm weirded out by the apparent pause while Raiden is cutting, which looks like it will eliminate a lot of difficulty/fun.  On the other hand, I want to say "look, this is all stylistic stuff, this is what cyberpunk looks like as a genre, and they're going to get into the parody part in the actual game, they way they usually do--this is a pretty early trailer anyway, doesn't even have a release date, c'mon Vector."  And, frankly, a lot of these trailers are marketed on power fantasies, rather than how the games really tend to play out.

So yeah, I'm not that worried, now that I think of it.  There's lots of possibility for it to be a good game... maybe.

Honestly, you wanna make friends? I sincerely recommend these people: http://www.toastmasters.org/
That... actually looks fairly interesting. Damn shame that the closest one to me is an hour's drive from here. Which is currently financially inviable for me to manage without some other reason to be in th'particular town :-\

Though it's not really speeches I have problems with, it's that... small talk thing. Hard to make conversation when you're completely uninterested in (if not almost outright reviled by) most of the common cultural interests... and have an almost 180 degree preference on weather. It's like... 'how about show X?' 'I... don't own a noisebox. Or watch TV shows.' 'Beautiful day, innit?' 'It's neither cold nor cloudy nor raining. Horrible day :(' 'So, uh...' 'Wanna' talk theology?' *cricket chirp* Not owning a TV has also lead to a fairly intense comfort with quiet, too. Don't mind talking about things, but I'm perfectly content to sit in silence. That seems to bother most folks, for some reason :P

S'just kinda' awkward, I guess. Knowing there's this odd social expectation for conversation but not really feeling the drive for it. Just being around other people who aren't likely to attack you is pretty soothing, really.

Anyway, sad thing of the day. Yet another resource not in my immediate area. Yaaay :-\

Technique; story; stealth.

A punch has comparatively little to do with a fist, the force of your entire body should be channeled into aiming to penetrate the target. Torquing the legs, hips, torso and shoulders is required unless of course it's a faint or clearing motion. The fist is merely the end result of the transaction. That doesn't even consider form, evasion, and counters, or anything else really. Mostly, that man just freaking stands there.... He uses some footwork but.... Meh? That's it?

Being regarded as a weapon is a timeless conflict. If your purpose is to harm people, then are you still a person, or have you at least lost something? Ordinarily, it fucks with your head, as an understatement. From what I'm seeing, the story is: "I'm back. Look what I can do with my sword. I don't like this other guy and I'm gonna fuck him up." That's it?

Let's not forget it's a Metal Gear game. There's no stealth I'm seeing? MG started on NES with the notion that someone had an immensely powerful thing that nothing could stand against, "Metal Gear." Unable to stand against it, we snuck in behind it and took it out. This seems a different approach. I'm not seeing the appeal.

There seems to be massive potential in today's games for immersible storytelling. This would require good writing, which seems in short demand by producers. :( <--- I has a sad.

For what it's worth, which isn't much, I'm also originally from the boondocks where there is nothing.

Tip, small talk is called small talk not because of the length of the conversation, but because of the worth of the conversation. No one really cares. The only advice I can give you is fake it, but I don't know if that's good advice. It seems to be my mantra, "fake it." Not sure what personal advice from me is worth honestly. You'll probably end up a liar if you listen to me. :)

I'm just sitting around, thinking about some first-world problem, when I start thinking about mortality, than death, than how insignificant we are, just little specks on the most unlikely accident nature created, than I started thinking about the afterlife, than I got sad over Alzheimer's, which my grandma has had for a while. Plus it runs in the family, and seeing such a strong old lady be robbed of her memories, intellect, everything, by this one disease got me more sad than my previous brooding. I mean, such a condition is worse than death.

I have such a stupid train of thought.

Ehn, I don't have any real objections to social deception; lying to other people is fine so long as I'm not lying to myself, more or less, so long as it's not pathetically clumsy. Hypocrisy and weak-ass blatantly obvious deception (This includes most lying and... most deception, really. People generally aren't genuinely stupid, just trained to be unobservant.) bothers me, basically. I prefer deception through selective truths over outright lying, though~ Much more elegant. The best deception is absolute non-deception, really.

Manage fine, so far, it's just... draining. And awkward, etc., so forth. Is hard to keep up even an attempt at a facade when you can't be arsed to give two shits about it. The borderline hyper-sensitivity helps, somewhat. I can't turn people's yammering off, mentally, so I really am listening and paying attention to what they're saying*. I just can't really respond back very well, yet.

It's just hard to work with and influence (in a benevolent sense) people when the only really important thing to me about other folks is "Are they a bigot and/or hypocrite?**" Once that bit's vetted, I'm all for hug tiemz or whatever. S'just that most everyone else has these weird, I'unno, social expectations or something beyond that. Still haven't quite reached the point I can really grasp on an emotional level desiring anything beyond that kind of base human decency from interaction. If a person's a decent human being, then let us be mellow and feel the wind, yanno'? Or play with concepts or something; world build, discuss ideological systems, play with the language, whatever. Talking just to talk is just... boring, I guess. Unengaging.

*Incidentally, that's one of the reasons for my near-violent hatred of televisions, heh. They won't. Shut. Up.
**The former necessarily implies the latter, by th'way.

A quick skim of those and related articles didn't really make me feel any better.

In fact it made me feel a lot worse.

Fuck.

At least I have a name to put to it.

Then that's a perfectly normal paraphilia.

Don't feel ashamed... only feel ashamed if you want to MAKE someone an amputee to fulfill acrotomophilia.
