Bleed it out, then leeches!

Seriously, just leave it alone for a few days, unless it gets noticeably worse. In that case, doctor. Maybe mouthwash, in case it's bacterial.

Yea just leave it alone, it gets better on its own, or eat sweet stuff that melts on your mouth like chocolate chip. Usualy works as a temporary fix for me.

I would almost rather swerve my minivan into a head-on collision with a semi than tell my dad about my grades this semester, and I almost did tonight.

@Vector
Have you considered programming? Programming is basically math and logic brought to life, and it's an art! Don't let anyone ever tell you programming isn't an art.

It's also something mathematicians generally like getting into.

Toady was actually a teacher of mathemancy (I don't think he was a full professor though), then he eventually gave it up to make DF full time. With your head for mathematical equations you could become the best programmer, the BEST.

Yeah, I can program quite well.  What I mean is that I don't have the ins and outs of scads of languages or training, but I generally find the problems easy to solve in an elegant way.

Eh, I dunno.  I'm having some sort of personal problem that keeps getting deflected to new things.  Don't mind me.

I watched one of the community forts I'm part of start to unravel just a bit last night.  A community fort that I spend ten times as much time on as I do the one I run.

Without going into too many details, the fort ended up growing into a lot of RPing out events that happened in game, and has really taken off.  We got a few new players recently, and that was enough to break the proverbial camel's back, because we couldn't keep it straight anymore.  Things got a bit heated.  For a little while, I was worried we might lose one of our most dedicated players.

I really can't stand animosity, but I'm normally so passive I'm afraid to stand up and do anything about it.  I tried to help out this time, and I think maybe I actually did some good.  We got it back on track, but even still I had trouble going to sleep last night, worrying over all sorts of things about it.

I'm wondering if it's a good or a bad thing that I care so much.  I'd be quite upset for a while if that community fort did end up dying off because of this, or even if we just lost any of our players.  Especially if my effort to help bring it back in line is what ends up breaking it.

A game's a game, man. It's cool you're dedicated, and it's cool you guys do all that roleplaying, but try not to get too attached. In the end, it's a bunch of hairy nerds sitting at their computers pretending to be video game characters. Nothing to lose sleep over. Plus, being a DFort, it's bound to meet its natural end down the road anyway.

At least, be happy you're pretending to be an insane midget, and not a superpowered highschooler.

I have to ride to work in the pouring rain a few minutes, and I just realized my shoes are still wet from yesterday.  They're in the dryer now, but I'm not optimistic.

Yeah, that fact is not lost on me, and think that's really what bugs me more than the fort itself dying.  I've kind of grown attached to the people too, and hate to see any of them leave over something that I feel like I might have had the power to prevent.

I suppose that's the problem there.  People can and will do what they want and it's pretty silly of me to think that I can really control that, or really even should want to control that.  And people are going to disagree, I shouldn't think that I have the ability to prevent or really even the right to try and 'fix' disagreements.

I can't help but try though... gah.  I do this in person too.  Always trying to be the one who sees both sides of an argument and trying to get people to get along.

Also not lost on me, hehe.  I'm just trying to help prevent it from happening from something other than a fire breathing kitten eating forgotten beast.

I find assembly programming to be neat, but it's more hassle than I like to deal with if I can help it.  The only really remotely complicated assembly program I've ever written was a bootloader for my hobby OS (never went anywhere, of course).  That was fun, but debugging it...

Actually, I'm having difficulty imagining why you would be programming a mainframe in assembly these days, but it's hardly my area of expertise.  :)

You might be surprised at just how many businesses are using mainframes.  Banks, insurance companies, government ... they're not going away anytime soon.  Sure, most of the front-end stuff is PC and web-based, but they're storing the data on big iron.

One of the big reasons I like assembler is the debugging.  Something goes wrong, I get a dump of memory, and I can see exactly what's being stored where.  Higher-level languages just felt ... too obscured for me =P

Going back and reading through the last few days of posts and seeing people talk about math is making me sad, because I remember kicking myself in the ass for going down the "theoretical" path for my computer science degree.  Gallons of blood, sweat, and tears were expended trying to get my Numerical Analysis "F" up to a "C" in my fourth year.  My god ... if I never have to calculate the area under a curve again I will die a little happier.  At least when I got to grad school I could focus on the computer courses only.

Oh, and I never did get those last three credit hours for my Japanese minor.  That makes me sad too.  :(

It's always amusing to boot up the game with a fresh cheevo that addresses the crash.

Had to bury one of our cats today :'( he was having trouble breathing because of an issue with the muscles in his heart, and there wasn't anything we could do to save him. In the end it was a good life that he wouldn't have had otherwise (we rescued him when he was a kitten), but it's still tough to let go.

No "procrastinator client, it doesn't matter what you've heard or how much money it will cost you--the IRS doesn't like giving you an EIN this time of year and there is jack shit you can do about it.

http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=102767,00.html

"This application will not be available beginning 6:00 pm Friday, December 23, 2011 through Monday, January 2, 2012. We regret any inconvenience this may cause."

You can ordinarily do it via the internet, but that's not happening now for anyone.
You can do it by phone, but they won't do jack until they see the faxed form.
You can do it solely by fax, but meh. The fax takes a freaking week.

So basically the only way you can get it there is by fax and everyone is rushing to do it at once. You cannot do it "in a couple of days," right now and look at all the crap I don't give that you waited too long. You waited too long to tell me about this because you are procrastinator client. You want crap under a different tax year for tax savings. If this is the case, then kindly tell me when there is more than one week left in the year. Thanks.
