Rocket science?

Actually that is interesting.

In that it is a job people refer to but that NO ONE actually has an idea of "What the freeken heck DO rocket scientists do?".

I mean... You can see Pirates pirating, you can see Spys spying (or at least shooting people), and you can see Ninjas killing people... But all you picture Rocket Scientists do is somehow having a rocket and having it go into space.

It would be like picturing a Pirate's job being having lots of money.

I imagine a lot of prototypes in wind tunnels, vacuum chambers, etc.

Aerodynamics, you mean? Aeronomics is about the atmosphere.

The rocket has to fly through the air without a hitch, that shit better be tested.

A long time ago, I wanted to be a neurosurgeon. Then I realized the patients are awake when you operate on them, and the squick was just too overwhelming to overcome. That, and I failed miserably at Life and Death. It was pretty off-putting to earn a nickname like "The Butcher".

Life and Death 2 features Neurosurgery.

Honestly it is the most freekish scary game I ever seen in my life. Especially since it is nearly dead on accurate.

The game is genius in a sense.

Yes, it does! And yes, I was freaked out by that, too.

It's extremely difficult for me to keep focused. Especially when reading books. Especially when doing something as a 'job'. My mind is prone to distractions and running off on tangents in the middle of reading a paragraph, forcing me to constantly snap out of it and find the place I was before falling off the rails. This can happen repeatedly during the reading of a single page.

I miss the sun. A weird working week has meant I've only been awake at night since the Sunday before last. I won't be awake in the day until next Thursday / Friday.

The other forum I hang around (and have complained about, occasionally) died due to spam overload. They moved elsewhere, but I'm not sure I care enough to set up a new account. Glub glub life goes on, I guess.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I want to be a neurosurgeon. I'd not mind orthopedic surgery, though, provided it was at a decent enough place. I think the work load is worse for ortho, since'it treats more'common things, though.

-snip-
Australia is horrible, only fit for shipping convicts to.

Hmff. Think before you speak, Max. I live in Aus. I'm no flag-thumping bogan but I don't appreciate the whole 'aussies = convicts' thing. I'm descended from dutch immigrants and english upper class, not a convict. Rage.
