No, I'm not after sex so much as I am crushing on somebody when I don't want to have to deal with being attracted to anybody. I admit, there's often overlap between the two, but there's a great deal more implied by romantic attraction than exchanging orgasms, and the additional stuff is the more relevant bit when it comes to loneliness.

... Oh, lord. If you thought that by "movies", I meant "porn", you're pretty mistaken. Jeez.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I thought you meant only orgasmic exchange.:(  :)The defeat of loneliness is worth striving for, though don't get too caught up or you may burden yourself later on if you truly wish to end your attraction. In the end, loneliness has many cures.

Oh lordy, now I am dying on the altar of Kant.

Like, "I Kant work anymore."

I hate the beginnings of semesters.  I always end up having way more to do than can possibly ever be done, and seem to have forgotten all my time management skills in the one week between my last 1-year work blitz and the beginning of this semester.

I want a friend, a not-so-school friend, to complain with about all this stuff, and Thyme is not going to suffice because she'll just go "oh yeah my school is hard too."  If she were working this hard, I'd be happy to hear it, but she's apparently got enough time to blow that she can spend entire weekends on D&D and dating, instead of bashing her head on yet another dead philosopher.

Ugh. It's my birthday, but it's been a shitful day, and it feels really selfish to be so sullen when everyone's telling me specifically to have a happy day.

Hmm. She may spend her time on practical skills too.

The point was not "does she spend her time well," the point was "one of the few friends I have who doesn't go to this university is not going to be an appropriate site of discussion for my purposes."

Yeah, she's a lot better at many things than I am.  She can cook, clean, wear makeup, and be romantic.  I'm not meaning that as a slur on her, by the way--simply speaking, that's what she's better at than I am (I'm more academically and mechanically minded), and I see no need to bash her femininity for that sake alone.

Frankly, I don't know what purpose you thought your comment would serve.

Oops. I thought a sad thread could use some helpful advice, though I misunderstood you anyways.

Oh.  Well, frankly she's a very hard person for me to talk to for a number of reasons.  Our opinions about morality match up in an... extremely incompatible way, and our futures seem that they're going to permanently divide quite soon.  She wants to move to Korea and be a wife, I want to stay here and become a professor.  She'll only read things that line up with her strict opinion, I'll read just about anything, just to get a new and interesting argument out of it--and the biggest thing we used to share was books and the discussion thereof.  It's generally hard for us to talk for those reasons.

Sorry, it's a sore point.  I really wish we shared more.  We used to, but I kept on the road I was on, she deviated some (a lot)... it's not like that's some fault of hers, but it does make me very sad to see just what happened with all that.

Today, out of boredom, I was using my lighter to burn the hairs off my arm. Didn't even notice when I started to burn myself.
