Glad I got my say in the DADT thread, anyway. I found it very interesting that the gay district in Melbourne is shrinking due to growing acceptance. It actually warmed the cockles of my heart, so it probably doesn't belong here.

But sod you, it was nice.

Yeah, I was kinda bummed the DADT thread got locked too. But Toady's right, there's been something in the water lately....it's like Ayn Rand wound up on the summer reading list somewhere and now there's a slew of "bold Objectivists out to show humanity its own folly".

The thing about death which scares me the most is that it would upset my Mom, sisters and my dad. I don't want to die first coz I don't want them getting upset :/ other than that it doesn't really scare me. Maybe that's weird, I don't know.
Nah, it's pretty common. Take it as a sign that you are doin' alright, caring more about your family than your own well-being. A nice trait to have.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I almost wonder if it's because people (i.e. me =/) have started getting upset about the more casual things.  I raise an opinion, folks have a circumstance to argue against that opinion instead of just talking about other things, we get heightened social conservative values in the face of heightened social liberal values displayed.

Could be wrong, though.

(Also, hi, dudes.  I was watching that thread, and I'm doing some of mah mornin' Mafia, so I figgered I'd jump in with this)

That's probably one of the things that prevents me from dying.  I guess families can protect you even without doing anything.

Hey, glad you're still lurking. It's not just you. There was that Communism vs. Capitalism thread which just turned (and is still turning) into a LOLfest of "Okay, my favored ideology only sucks because people suck. In a perfect world, it would work marvelously! Oh, and yours obviously sucks because it sucks in RL".

For shits and giggles, I should open up a thread on the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. As a Southern progressive, there's no way I could possibly come out of that one intact.  ::)

Do it, but ensure such hilarious historical inaccuracy that nobody could possibly take it seriously. Insist that Hitler was the President of the United States and General Genghis Khan was the leader of the Confederate Army. I promise, at least 5 people will think you're being serious and type up rants about how people don't know anything about history. Gods, everything about this idea is terrible, isn't it?

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Given that I have a B.A. in history....that would be incredibly painful for me. On the other hand, it also means I should be able to come up with some epic troll material.

In this case, it was purely bigoted remarks about gay people (comparing them to paedophiles, saying that people who were openly gay were comparable to people who bragged about having sex with goats etc).  Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm playing in a few Mafia games and responding to all those PMs (I have pages of them to respond to since April).

So yeah, I'm trying to do other stuff with my time, but for the moment I'm basically stuck at the computer typing and occasionally check in on a debate/news I'm interested in.  Because goddamned PMs and I get pretty tired of them, but I really want to just have the job done with.

Actually almost this very thing has been going on in Yahoo Politics recently, due to Sarah Palin and the "Paul Revere" thing. Someone is trolling History Lessons According to Sarah Palin.

It's been a hoot: e.g. one was arguing the details of how Theodore Roosevelt's "New Deal" caused WWI, I forget the details but whoever is writing them has a comedic gift.
