Humour and laughter is actually a very effective coping mechanism for dealing with loss and the unknown, the downside is that the humour itself is not universal and can be viewed by others as tasteless.

Screw mourning. At my funeral I hope there's a death-themed cake, skeleton-clowns, and awesome video games to keep everyone entertained while my corpse is being turned into a pyre on a stage where some metal band is playing kick-ass riffs.

Now if only I could afford the pharaoh-level expenses for that...

Yeah, if she isn't a dog person then she probably should get rid of it, but that depends on you as a boyfriend figuring out the motives for her wanting to get rid of it. It should probably be your first priority, to find out what the problem is before looking for solutions.
She compares him with her other yellow lab which is very calm, I'm not letting this animal get destroyed for the wrong reasons but i don't want to piss her off to oblivion.

I'm with you.  I see mourning as self-centered.  A funeral should be cause to celebrate whatever can be celebrated about a person's life.  May be difficult to pull off in the case of a child....

Hunter S Thompson designed a cannon that Johnny Depp built and then shot his ashes out of after he died.  I loved reading about that.  I want to do something as cool, though I'll probably aim for a little more poetic than epic.

I see mourning as self-centered.

Is that bad? The funeral is not really for the dead person; he does not care about anything anymore. A sad funeral is the same as a happy funeral to the dead.

I don't even want a funeral. I want to die in such a way that people speculate about my life/death status forever. I want to be an urban legend, plaguing the minds of gullible people for years to come.

It does if the dead guy knows what will happen when he dies before he dies.

Anyway, I always wanted to die via bear fight. But after MSH post I might change my mind.

A sad funeral is the same as a happy funeral to the dead.

This isn't known, and I know that I could at least die easier knowing that my death wouldn't be used as an excuse to be depressed.  I thought the purpose of a funeral was to honor the dead anyway.

It does if the dead guy knows what will happen when he dies before he dies.

Yeah.  This.

Well, I am fairly sure that someone is going to find pain and sorrow in your death, and there is nothing you can do to prevent it, and I would certainly not trivialize it by calling it an “excuse”.

I think it might be reasonable to suppose that it is selfish to demand that those at your funeral refrain from expressing their sorrow.

I always wanted to have Ride of the Valkyries played at my wedding.  Barring that, my funeral.

I suspect this sounds a bit twerpy, but I don't care.

If, by “twerpy”, you mean “cool”, then yes. Very twerpy.

I just hope everyone at my funeral will quote Vonnegut when I'm gone and smile.

So it goes.

I'm just lost in a chronosynclastic infundibulum and realise that we want to have fleeting moments of love to justify our minuscule experiences of this vast world before we dissipate back into the universe.

I want my funeral to be a very simple process.

1. Take corpse.
2. Add copious amounts of flammable and/or explosive substances.
3. Add flame via remote control.
4. Cake for everyone in attendance.

Of course, it'd have to be done in like the middle of the Pacific Ocean or Antarctica or something, but....
