Unrelated to the previous topic, but I have to get my ass in gear.

Ass -> DRIVE

This means wrapping up a couple of responsibilities in the Hetalia fandom (blech) and answering PMs from... way back in April.  And clearing out my emails again, from no fewer than three addresses.  And deleting roughly half of my bookmarks on this computer.

*sigh*

I really have to cut down on the time I allow myself to waste answering internet communications.  And I have to stop bookmarking stupid crap like, right now.  What was my younger self thinking when I bookmarked some 200 pages on Wikipedia (in mid-high school)?  Those are not good sources for, like, anything... not that I understood that at the time.  I went "Wooo, free information!  And there's so much of it!"

There's still some things I can look at and find uproariously laughable, every time.  But those things are few and far between.

Same goes for the bad fanfic that I bookmarked, though I have to say that I'm glad I saved all of these essays.  They're really quite cool.

I'm glad for all the time I spent playing Mafia here.  I'm glad I stopped before too long in my desire to branch out to other sites for the game, though.  We're a lot more fun.

Isn't it strange how 90% of one's time spent on earth (so far for me, anyway) ends up feeling like a waste--mere water under a bridge--but once in a while you find a couple of things that make everything seem worth it?

On overbookmarking: ReadItLater Firefox addon. Very useful for stuff you don't want stuck inbetween your real bookmarks, but want to keep for later, but don't want to leave the tab open.

I feel like I'm procrastinating, even though I'm not. Therefore, there is no shrugged responsibility I can fufill to shake the feeling. Between this, sunburn, and daily nightmares, I just generally feel like shit even though I'm supposed to be on summer vacation and happy. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother.

Actually procrastinating will, over time, make you feel like you're always procrastinating, even when you have nothing to put off 'till later. I feel the same way all the time. "WELL NOW WHAT DO I HAVE TO PUT OFF!?"

It's not strange at all. Actually it's the law. Sturgeon's law:

"ninety percent of everything is crap". (EDIT: this definition is according to Oxford English Dictionary, so it's official: 90% of everything is actually crap ;) )

Here's a link to some really great music from the 1960's just to show people who say crap is only modern are totally wrong. Shite of such epic-proportions would never be released today (restrain all dangerous animals before playing this music).

Don't forget the corollary: "90% of the remaining 10% is crap"

And an addendum: all the crap floats to the top, leaving the gold to sink to the bottom. To find the gold, you must wade through the crap.

Wow. That's some pretty fucked up shit.

Um. The part of the internet that traditional search engines do not pull up?

Why is that fucked up?

If it is hidden, how do people get to it?

I really don't mind taking her place online if she doesn't want to talk about certain things with her friends. But I think Janet still needs to talk things out with people more before something bad happens over how she treats certain things.

If it is hidden, how do people get to it?

Word of mouth mostly.
It can be a bit of a slippery slope, you start out somewhere accessible and gradually move deeper and deeper, slowly sinking beyond the reach of the ever-present Google.
I've been down that road before and I can assure you, there is every reason to be afraid.
Of course, not all of it is bad and 'hidden internets' includes a few things that are perfectly normal in everyday life, just that the search engines can't get.
Like when you purchase something online, and it takes you to a page after you've filled out the forms for payment info, and it's like 'is this correct?'
That's deep web as well.
