Was my friend's birthday last night, so we and a few friends ended up pretty plastered.  Cue the usual issues of people getting sick and getting hangovers the next day.

Hate alcohol.  Why do people enjoy this crap <_<

Torbutton doesn't work with Firefox 4.0.1. Luckily tor still works, despite the lack of torbutton to turn it on and off.

If it helps, here's a link to one, but Gender Trouble seems to be a book, although one that isn't hard to get hold of. Assuming those're the ones Vector meant (if not, oops)

Huh, weird.  Same name, different author--I recommend the one by Gayle Rubin.

There is a PDF to Gender Trouble floating around and very easy to find on the internet.  I've only read the first chapter, though, so if you're interested then that's more than enough.

Oh, gods, I feel dumb. You even said that in the original post. Anyway, yeah, I've been looking around and there are copies of both, but now I realize why you didn't link em since they are BOTH still under copyright (I think).

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I merely pointed out that 'indifference' in it's various forms and levels is a cop out, because it's the result of not fully understanding, and not fully living. You can feel the saying is untrue, but the statement is that what separates the living from the non-living are various forms of passion. Do you disagree with the thought that to have passion about nothing is to be semantically dead?
I'm not sure I fully understand the use of 'semantically' in this context, but if it means metaphorically, then yes, I think it is a bad metaphor. You or I are no less alive if we have less "passion" than some other random dude. Why would it matter? And who are you to pass judgement on how people act or feel?

Furthermore, I don't think indifference is a "cop-out" either. The universe is completely indifferent to everything. In the larger picture, we are just carbon and stored energy. It is only on our scale, from our perspective, that things matter or have meaning, because we give them meaning. The feeling of stuff losing it's meaning when viewed from the grander perspective is not a "cop-out", it's just a simple emotional response.

I am not supposed to be enjoying this movie at all.  5-year-old self, this must be your influence, because I know it certainly isn't mine.

This is probably the first ever Mothers' Day where I've been reminded of its existence before it's over.

Argh.

What is the perp? A table? I footstool? A bench, couch leg, a DESK? It must be brought to justice.

The other day I reverse-stubbed my knee on the screen door. It was not nice.

This is just vengeful, naive furniture that hasn't learned what it truly means to be...just furniture.
