Reading the "Sir Apropos" saga. The first book was funny enough, but the two following ones, despite still fun, come off as depressing and existentialist.

Decided to spend an afternoon at the lake. Leg's feeling better, I leave my cane at home. Within an hour I'm attacked by a swan (swans are very agressive, don't laugh), a few others manage to grab it, throw it into the lake. If I had brought my cane I probably could have defended myself or even managed to avoid getting my ass kicked by a bird. Not a good way to start the week, not at all.

Don't really see many swans here, but yeah...Canada Geese. Buggers will hiss at you AFTER you've just given them a quarter loaf of bread to eat.

My theory is that one reason why Canadians are generally so friendly is that their aggression is psychically leeched out of their bodies and into their geese.

Good point. Next time I'm at the lake and one hisses at me and my daughter, I'll have to glance it sidelong and mutter, "Clever girl....."

Hopefully without a second one bursting out of the bushes and mauling me to death.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I feel lame for posting this, but D&D has finally put to me a problem I can't address. Not like a "This is something I can't accomplish" kind, I mean a, "These rules are fundamentally inconsistent, and there's no way to address the problem without changing them" way.
Whats are the rules in conflict?
