I never have any intent on getting blood on this knife. Just look them in the eyes all crazy-like with your knife in a proper stabbing position and they usually back off to find a better target. If they don't then they are crazy anyway and it's really up in the air whether they will rough you up or not. It all depends on how threatening you can look and how fast you can run when things go tits-up.
fake tomato juice..?
Nah, you'll just have to know how to look like a psychopath. Trust me, it works.

Knives aren't really a defensive implement.  Plus, I can tell MoM for a fact that it's pretty illegal in the UK (pull a knife on an unarmed attacker and you become the attacker).

I really don't care about getting in deep shit to be honest. and as I said, it'd be for an emergency situation.
Edited for less douchyness

Okay, really, the best, safest thing to do is comply and be calm. That's how you preserve your life, which is pretty much the ultimate goal here. That's the best thing to do in this situation. That said, having a knife does make for a huge advantage, but if things go tits up then the consequences are probably much higher. It sounds terrible, but the best thing to do is do what they want.

This isn't a hypothetical. Doing what the mugger wants is the best possible option, and having a knife raises the stakes. It's just that pulling a knife makes it all go hypothetical, which is why it's not a good idea.

I mean't I'm acting as if it was me in said situation, as I edited out I don't have a great history with allowing people to do what they want.

Baseless assumptions are the best assumptions because baseless assumptions don't stop.

Wow, I need to stop using that line.

Baseless assumptions? you lot are trying to get a guy to carry knives on him for "self defense", which is unlikely to work if the mugger that they are against calls their bluff, and certain to fail if there is more than one mugger. And yes, on top of that, trouble with the police.
Really, this bit of irresponsible advice is among the worst I've seen in these forums, and that's saying something. It's even worse than the bit about bringing a gun in the "trek accross the US" thread.

I wasn't suggesting he carry knives.
Where in my post did I say "You should carry a knife" or "It wouldn't have happened if you had a knife"?

Just remembered that my Tenor Sax mouthpiece and all my music was in my back pack.

Fuck.

Pssst. Read the rest of what I said. Carrying knives ain't a good idea.

What I was saying was that this:
Lefty and righty 1 are my boot knives
Lefty and righty 2 are the wrist knives

Which are more likely to get taken by the mugger and then shoved in your bodyparts than the other way around.

Is something I'd like you to actually back up with some sort of evidence. It's most definitely a hypothetical and stating it like it's a fact requires proof.

Also I completely forgot to specify and I apologize for that.

Hmm... seems to be commonly cited, but the source is ellusive.  Eh.

What is true is that carrying a knife can get you up to 5 years in prison in the UK.

I prefer to be unarmed against an armed opponent. At least you know what they're coming at you with (most of the time.) On the other hand, people rarely guard against your elbows and knees. I've been robbed at both knife and gunpoint. I don't recommend attacking someone with a weapon, even if you're very well trained.

The only reason I escaped unscathed from the gunpoint robbery is the fact that the robber had a "deer in the headlights" look, and let me get in his face over the bar instead of shooting me. The guy with the knife actually gashed me pretty good on the left forearm.

Well, there will be up to an inch of ice in my near future. If I'm lucky, my classes will be cancelled tomorrow, but I'd probably have to go over there myself to check, as I'm probably going to lose power.

EDIT: Yup, campus closed at 4:30 this afternoon. Good thing too, because I completely forgot about my spanish class.
