Survival of the fittest. Beat them away with one copy of the book, saving the other for study.

They can place it on hold and take the copy at any time, and if I hold onto the book I won't accrue library fines, but I also won't be able to check anything else out.

Public university, dearest >_>

The library has two copies, and at least 20 students need a copy of the book.
Cambridge is public too... although ridiculously well funded due to foreign students and state aid.  Hmm.

Doing it like that seems to create a sortof bottleneck on one book, though.  Although if it's the only book that teaches that area well, I guess it can't be helped.

Turns out there's a LOT of kids in my grade that have done/do drugs. Rather a pity, really.

It's more like it's not the most popular choice in that area, but some teachers like it.  One of those niche volumes... easy enough for beginner's, hard enough that they don't stagnate completely.  Lots of examples =/

I personally prefer books that are low on examples and high on interesting exercises, but that's just me.

I've run into that issue too with high school and college friends... they even say all the drug education we got in school is nothing more than propaganda.

I am one of a very, very small handful of people who passed the Japanese final.
Even then, most of the others who passed did so just barely.
Why does my being so excellent make me feel bad?

Because you have at least a shred of empathy and aren't a terrible person?

Seriously, Japanese isn't universal and intuitive like math.  Many people really can't hack it.  Apparently, you can.

But I also feel bad about having a good grade in math when half the class is failing and a third are switching out to Algebra 2 next semester. D:

Also, this pisses me off enormously.

Yes, I myself find Algebra to be esoteric and near-impossible. Yet, Chemestry come to be like I always knew it. You try and figure that one out.

Hmm... I'd say I have a good propensity for low level maths (think High School), but my head tends to explode when I get onto tougher stuff.  Probably more likely to go down the science side.

Hmm... chemistry doesn't have to involve a huge amount of algebra, does it?  I mean, I've found that while in physics we tend to use it all the time for pretty much everything, chemistry tries to stick with word equations for things as much as possible.
