Does it hold interest?

If you're that enthused by spousal rape, lesbian affairs, and a plot that doesn't hold water: yes.  I, however, found myself rather bored.

That....

That sound actually kind of amusing, in a sick sort of way.

(Mind you, this is not supposed to be even remotedly creative or original. Rather, I'm curious as to what their reaction will be when you take their sagely advice and come with a dime-a-dozen pulp story)

Someone in the class is writing a story about what seriously sounds like a generic harlequin novel plot/cheap spy thriller.  It's been received with rave reviews.
Right, now I know what kind of class this is :P

Procure a copy of Twilight, rename the characters, get good reviews.

Rename the characters.
Replace the whole vampire thing with something else, like maybe [Edward] is tg or cross-dressing.
???
Profit.

Perhaps, but the writing is just so... harlequin...

If it helps, the person working on it actually used to work in the porn industry.

The only real reason people dislike Twilight is because of how poorly written it is in contrast with its popularity.

The plots not that horrible, in perspective.

Heh, I read internet MightAsWellBeFanFic. I don't really even see bad writing anymore.

To be honest the decay in vampire novels was started with anne rice and her "vampire chronicles".

Well, guess what?

This is the guy who taught Anne Rice how to write.  No fucking joke.

The vampire series from Wolfgang Hohlbein isn't bad.
However, his books aren't translated into english.

To be honest, I've not really payed any attention to vampires outside of Buffy/Angel, Dracula, and Hellsing.
I know absolutely nothing about Anne Rice's stuff.

That should be in the HAPPY thread.

I think cross-thread-discussions, are rather contra-productive.
