Upon ten minutes or so of mature reflection, I'm going to have to stick with my previous answer:

Stab him to death.

By which I mean "change your locks, wash your sheets, find a good hiding spot for your journal, and never talk to the fucker again."

... But changing locks costs money.  Hm...

Then get his key back and cold shoulder him.  Because seriously, that's basically four tiers of betrayal right there, and someone who can easily betray you four times in one day is not worth your friendship.  I don't care how much he rationalizes it: he still did it, and he still joked about it rather than showing up wearing a hair shirt and apologizing everywhere.  The son of a bitch is not being contrite, and without contrition he has absolutely no reason not to do it again.

Don't act fake for him. Either bitch him out in front of everyone and denounce him, or demand recompense (be that an apology or somthing else). What he did is by no means allright, and you should not let him think so.

Nah, if he acts pissed in front of his other friends then he's lost.  It's just like breaking up with a girlfriend.

I'm sorry, but you really have no idea of knowing that. The guy might be one of those people who are so bad at handling uncomfortable feelings (in this case, guilt) that they go right into comedy mode (The same kind that starts laughing/giggling hysterically when they're overcome with guilt, because they don't know any other way to handle it). The joke might have been an attempt to express the regret.

Other than that, I agree with you. He's been an arse, and you shouldn't let him get away with it, Solifuge.

For the record, a large number of states in the U.S. that have no prohibition against duels. Just saying.

Jeez, Sol. How did you react when he told you? That would be an appropriate 'thrown forcibly out of your apartment/life/friend circle' scenario if I ever did see one. Also, you ought to talk to him about it beforehand and get him not to go to your movie night. Everyone's been in that awkward invasion-of-stuff-you-like situation where you have to act all friendly; you know it's going to be sucky if he ends up there :\

Huh. If that happened to me I would barely even care. Offended of course, but it wouldn't be that big a deal... I guess I'm just different.

Also, I spent an entire hour doing a Lets Play of Freedroid RPG, wearing my voice out, only to find that CamStudio had yet again decided to fuck up the AVI and destroy all the work I had done. This happens every single time.

I dunno, you guys have survived Thomas the tank engine, golems, zombies, nuclear explosions, laser whales, and being on the same team as ragnarock.  I don't think something as tame as a world ending rain of lava will even slow you guys down.

Why do you even keep a journal anyways? Or, for that matter, leave it anywhere where it might be read?

If I kept a journal (which I don't) I'd keep it encrypted in a computer without internet access, or an usb stick I wore around my neck at all times, or something like that.

I'd write it on the inside of my eyelids in glow-in-the-dark paint. I'd like to see someone try and steal those secrets.

Post it in life advice, nobody would care enough to retain it.

Also, duels may not be explicitly forbidden in many states, but armed combat is still going to result in criminal charges when you assault/murder your rivals in public.

Excellent point, I'd completely forgotten about that.  Thanks for the reminder.

I'm still on Team Defenestrate, though.

Some people get something out of writing by hand.

I feel like a total wuss because I can only work for an hour or two now before I have to rest.  Only studied for 4-4.5 hours out of the 6 I've been awake.  Of course, I have 7 hours left in the day, so if I get 8 hours done today I'll feel pretty good.

Still.

Bleh.

Well, I would personally stab him to death.
Does this have anything to do with the raging screams of your neocortex? I'd be worried about that if I thought you knew where I live.

Anyway, did you consider that it was actually a joke and he didn't do that?
