by definition, one mole of pure 12C has a mass of exactly 12 g

That sounds wrong to use the i tags... Is that true, what about the electrons? I have no idea.

Edit: Shut up I don't know how to spell.

There are a LOT more digits in it that aren't 0. That's just close enough for most purposes.

That's mainly chemistry. Which has far too many constants, yes. Physics on the other hand is fun. It shows what math can be used for, the reason people like you study pure math.(You might argue otherwise... but in the end pure math would receive very little attention if it didn't usually have some practical application.)

Well yeah, I know that, that is why I used 6.00 and not 6

The value for moles is actually a lot more useful and convenient than the other ones in this thread, as it allows you to switch between relative atomic mass and grams fairly easily (and thus work out how much of something you reacted with how much of something else).

I hate moles, so, so much. I was out sick the day we went over them in Chemestry, which led to me bombing my first test of the year.

I like moles.

I got a song for them.

~A mole is a number haven't you heard? It's six times ten to the twenty third~

We actually watched the Garry's Mod version of that in chemistry.

I have actually taken a physics course, and I took chemistry in college.  Read some popularizations, blah blah blah.  Argued with physics majors.  Mostly, what they said is that "math is the ugly language and physics is the literature."  I guess my opinion might be "math is the beautiful language and physics is the bad Mary Sue fanfiction."  Then there's the arguments about rigor, and about when one is allowed to proceed with a theory...

Meh.  I don't think the vendetta will ever end, simply because each camp has different tools and different things they're optimizing for.

Now I'm wondering if I should try to live with physics majors, or if I should try not to.  It seems like there could be a lot of arguments.

It isn't winter, it's autumn! Wonderous, awesome fall! Well, awesome October, at any rate.
